Another forum I look at has a guy asking about a hydraulic problem with the DB. He has apparently changed rear end filter and even over filled the oil. Symptom is hydraulic lift will not work if tractor is parked on a downhill slope. On the level or up hill it will operate. Any ideas?

I’d be asking on the David brown forum there’s an issue with the suction line not being submerged either a seal or loose pipe. Or possibly the valves sticking.

Sounds like it could be sucking air or an air lock
Could try bleeding on the top stud on the camels hump
(by the hydraulic lever and dump valve where an external spool valve could be fitted)

I think that forum is quite important as there’s a dying amount of people who know about these,
hours of struggling may be pointless give Barclay Williams a ring he’s a really nice guy and plenty of time. Seldom say there’s many people I genuinely enjoy doing business with, he may not be cheap as agriline but it’s good quality and his knowledge is priceless.

After further thought, I've a feeling it's all to do with part No 11, and it could be O ring No 13 has gone. If so, it's possible the end where 13 is can be allowing oil to be sucked up by the pump, but when it's downhill it's just sucking air. And if I'm right it can be sucking unfiltered oil.
One of my local experts died a couple of years ago, and the other upped sticks and moved away from the area.

Could be the answer, it's the adaptor (No 15) that gets broken when someone forgets to remove it before taking off the PTO housing, still wants repairing or you can still be sucking unfiltered oil.
