At his age you are very much on borrowed time anyway covid 19 or no covid 19 and as he was offered the free tickets so at his age it was totally the correct thing for him to do to take the chance of a free holiday when he could still enjoy the experience which meant taking the holiday sooner rather than later.
Regardless of what he did in his last months he was a true war hero who fought for our freedoms that we take for granted today and when he was fighting for them he lost many friends who gave their today so we could have our tomorrow and the UK should never forget just what his generation of men and woman did to ensure we can be here today.

I have the utter most respect for Captain Tom rip, and his generation. But I do feel that he and his family should not have travelled during this pandemic. When so many elderly people are in complete lockdown, not getting to see close family and friends due to the risks. Raising money for NHS funds, and travelling the world bringing in different variants of the virus is a bit hypocritical.
The reason captain Tom went on holiday was that the people taking him got a free holiday out of it too simple as that
