Farming in a goldfish bowl!

For those like us who farm around a village.

One thing I’ve noticed is the huge amount of people exercising around our area in the daytime, dog walking,running,cycling,twitching........dogging.......put that one in for @Baldrick .:bag:

I‘m getting a bit fatigued of all these people invading my work place.

Anyone else finding this?
Yes. I’m in the middle of a village. Dog walking seems of the upmost importance here!! We were moving sheep a couple of miles up the road and counted 20 odd of them

Seriously lost half my day today, driving TWICE to go and put sheep back in "about to get on the road" which were actually just sticking their heads through the fence to eat the ivy off the hedge . . . . . . same house rang repetitively until I went out. Upon arrival I realised that the womans day consisted of standing in her garden . . . . . . .

Why do these folk never see a sheep on its back in time? Or a hung or hungry lamb etc.

Don’t worry I have it all here just the same. I had a heap of cows and calves in the fields in the village after silage came off for a couple of weeks to eat dyke backs out and everyone was complementary about them and said how nice they were. Probably changed their tune now it’s wet clarty and there’s shyte to spread

I had a call a while back:
Caller: Theres a calf in the field opposite with your sheep.
Me: Are you sure?
Caller: Yes, definitely.
Me: What colour is it?
Caller: Black and white.
Me: But all my calves are brown.
Caller: Really? I thought all calves are black and white.
Me: No, mine are brown, but some of my lambs are black and white!

I lived on a lovely out of the way farm which was pretty idyllic until the rise of the dog walkers.
Not just because of this I sold up and bought a new place which is actually on the roadside (the other place had a mile long drive). The new place has no footpath and is away from the reach of the village dog walkers.
I very much do not miss the old place at all but I do miss the days before all the bloody rambling dog owners invaded. This small island is getting ever smaller.

I always considered @Yale 's place one of the more out of the way parts of the country.

I can take silage around the sheep and pass 20 people exercising and dog walking.

A right pain!

I even go out to feed sheep rolls to the ewes at just past 7am to get a clear run. :banghead:

unless your on the urban fringe you dont know what a huge amount of people is , i could quite easy put up with our villagers , its the thousands of other neighbors we struggle with.

Be careful what you wish for. We get several every year during lambing, turning up at the door carrying a ‘hungry’ lamb.

It will be now, you’ve just made sure it’s mother won’t have it back!😡 To be fair, I think my educational methods are slowly sinking in though.:)
