Another pointless thread! Why not ask who would you rather own the assurance apparatus the NFU or Tesco? Either leave red tractor/certify yourself or move on would be my advice.
Being non members what the NFU do or don’t do isn’t any of our concern really.
Spot on,

You can't please everyone all of the time!

Why would any member organisation listen to those that aren't actually paid up members over its actual members.

Waste of time as won't actually know what the paid up members want.

How about a

yes, I am a member
Yes I am not a member
No i am a member
No I am not a member

no - lets keep it simple, why shouldn’t none members have an opinion of if an organisation consults its members or not ?

how can asking if the organisation that claims to represent UK farmers should democratically let members vote on big issues be pointless ?

Don't twist what I said.
I didn't say they shouldn't.

If the poll cone up 60/40 in favour of consulting but the majority of NFU members are in the 40%. Hence why its a complete pointless poll unless there is 4 options

All of the threads on here regarding the NFU are, in effect, calling for a referendum on this or that issue.
"Do this or else I quit"'.
They illustrate why I didn't vote in the Brexit referendum. The fundamental flaw with referendums is that what is the most important thing in the world to one person, is irrelevant to another. If we are to have a referendum on the NFU and red tractor, then why not have a referendum on the NFU and their zero carbon pledge ? Or their failure to oppose a beef tax ? And so on.

What needs to change first with the NFU is for them to start to read everything that is posted on here and see it not as a threat, or a criticism, but as constructive input into how they carry out their role as 'the voice of British farming'. If there was concrete evidence that they were doing that, in the form of policy amendments etc, then I suspect that their life and ours would be rosier.

Perhaps they should say "the voice of the majority of British farmers"

What would the CLA , TFA say.
"The voice of the minority British farmers"?

That’s the point isn’t it? I don’t know or care who owns RT, fact is retailers hold the power in the food chain and they dictate the terms of business.

No. I think we are the ones who hold all the power in the food chain if we chose to exercise it. It's our choice when push comes to shuv. The buyers won't go without...It's essential food we are talking about and without us there isn't any.

Simply not true. No one has to eat meat, no one has to eat dairy products, in fact no one has to shop at a supermarket. There are plenty of alternatives if consumers choose to avoid RT.
