AB15 2 year legume fallow

No not as flexible as that. You can only establish ab15 in aug year 1 and aug year 3.
So you will be able to spread it about on 200 ha.
To do the whole farm I suppose you would need 50pc of your land in ab15 at a time about 2 yrs in ab15 each.
Although strictly speaking they’d want to see a token amount of ab8 and 9 to balance it out in their eyes.
Or 100pc of your land in ab15 for 5 yrs.

Definitely depends on the year. 2019 mustve been tricky. 2018 on the other hand was bone dry

One note on establishment - this year we list every broad leafed part (legumes) from wevil. Rebroadcast the legume part to zero success. By the end of year two our ab15 was rank with wevil and putting the new block next to it / not spraying insecticide was a big mistake. Grass element has come well. Will top hard and give it another dose of legume in spring but has been an expensive lesson.

To be completely honest I really don't know, I guess it would depend on the weather and soil conditions at the time. And possibly if I felt I could get a good chit and spray off before the AB15. I did put some in in May last year on land that we didn't the wheat in in autumn 2019 and on the whole it looks very well considering it had hardly any rain for the first 6 weeks of its life, although I did patch in some extra clover mixed 50/50 with some of the original seed this autumn where it had struggled.

This worries me.

Definitely going to put grass in the mix because of weevil. At least something will grow.

Went from nice even establishment to stumps in a week. Was quite shocking.

I've noticed it before with clovers in our grass leys. 90% of leaves eaten.

My experience with beans is that insecticides only have limited effectiveness.

Isn’t that the other way around? I must have grass in my mix, I thought it was agreements starting this Jan that can drop the grass element?

B'oB beat me to it. Plantings from autumn 2021 are without inclusion of grass - bit more legume species. But as ever never take not of me - I could be a Russian bot!!

I was only speaking with a supplier yesterday about Stewardship mixtures and mentioned the two AB15 options! Perhaps I should begin to blame age too!!!

Have they reduced the legume/flower inclusion rates @Fat hen ?

One I could mention is Shepherd Seeds. PRG mixed with Lucerne and the other legumes. I think some grass inclusion is important to ensure that at least something grows - esp in the first winter/spring.
