Are shear buckets a success ?

I use a 4ft shear grab on my Massey 5610 which is well suited to it but recently I’ve switched to using bucket as pit face had slipped so just needed scooped up , finding it so much quicker to fill feeder and passages also keeps pit floor cleaner but obviously doesn’t keep a nice face on pit so thinking a shear bucket could be the thing also handier putting cake in bucket them into feeder. Do they work well ? Any recommendations? Is there a knack to using them ?

I've never heard of them (all round bales here anyway, no pit) but I googled out of curiosity. Found this on YouTube

Wouldn’t be without one, been running them since 1996 and have no complaints.
Currently have a Shelbourne 250 (I think that’s the size) started using them on a jd 6300 with a Trima 1490 loader and had no problems getting into silage face, had my current one 6 years and I’ve never touched the cutting or bucket edge to sharpen them,I’ll get a pic of clamp faces tomorrow.
No different to using a shear grab IMO

I thought it might be harder to get right into pit face

Am also very curious about a shear bucket as my Mchale shear grab, which has served me well for the last 8 years, needs replacing after this winter and am also wondering whether a shear bucket is the way to go...

Wev a wee massey 30e industrial and shear grab and 1 thing that winds me right up is when bits of silage falls of it round the yard creatin a mess. Always wondered about a shear bucket but wondered if tractor would be fit to push it into the silage as it sometimes struggles to get the grab in the full way so thoughts on will a 30e handle it?

I think it will be handy as I want to get on to a tmr mix for youngstock but it’s a faff swapping grab off to put bucket on to put straights in so currently just bag up cake then pour over silage when fed out

Friend of my dad's had a parmiter on a Sanderson and when he sold up asked if we would like to buy it because it would fit on ours. I asked if it pushed in to the face ok and he said it was fine as long as you had a good run up🙄

They're great, especially for bales, and meal. Saves a lot of implement switching, mostly we load clamp silage. We don't try to ram the bucket in, we have it tipped down a bit and let the blade do the work. You want to make sure you have a big enough tractor/loader combo to cope with it and a bale.
