Cranesbill in spring barley

Would like to kill it Pre emergence, OSR no tilled might be following crop so don’t want to spray post emergence with SU.

How much money do you realistically want to spend on a bit of spring barley? The problem is that pre-ems have their work cut out in spring most years if it's dry. Make a good seed bed, maybe apply stomp (liberator, maybe) and an adjuvant and hope it rains. I have no real belief stomp will do anything for cranesbill but it will keep the other riff-raff out so you can wallop the cranesbill when its at the right growth stage. It may mean a separate spray pass just for weed control depending on what the crop is.

Failing that, put it in maize or spuds where your chemical armoury is nastier.

Picolinafen has some activity on cranesbill but it’s not on the label of PicoMax (with PDM). That has a recommendation for spring barley and a big price tag. From personal experience, it’s not very good either.

Arylex is good on cranesbill and is in Belkar, so shouldn’t cause a problem in the following osr crop. Zypar or Pixxaro would be a better investment IMO, along with a good seed rate and a soil test for pH. Zypar contains florasulam which controls brassicas so if I were paranoid about SU residues I’d go with Pixxaro post emergence and add CMPP if you need brassica control. Use Kyleo pre drilling as glyphosate isn’t enough by itself on cranesbill - there was a thread on this recently but you may have started it!

Clayton Obey DOES NOT have an approval for use on Spring Barley. Please be careful what you advise.

Agreed. SOLAs on these:
