I have finally got all my ducks in a row for purchasing a tractor in March 2021 for £11,500 - £14,500. A few years ago I asked which one I should look at and got an avalanche of advice.

I am going to use the tractor for moving heavy pallets about the yard as well as for the 15 acre farm.

I am going towards a 80-100HP 4wd tractor with a loader as a package, or I could buy the tractor just now and a loader later in the summer ( I have an old forklift that will move stuff about the yard at the moment).

I would prefer the most reliable type of tractor that works well with a loader. Last time I was told the Case tractors have good steering and cabs.

I have narrowed the options to:

1/ Older Case 1056/956/895 XL, with loader

2/ Newer Case CS94/ CS100/ CX100 all with NO loader

3/ Older Massey Ferguson 390 T, with loader

4/ Older Ford 6640, with loader

5/ Newer Zeta 8441 with loader

6/ Newer New Holland with NO loader

Has anyone had one of these models and would recommend it? Would you go for a tractor and loader as a package (older model probably) or would you go for a newer tractor without loader, then try and source a loader later? Or is sourcing the right type of loader for a tractor a real pain?

You could also give feedback on the best option by doing the poll (if it works) or just quoting the option Number 1-6.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes , I was wondering about that, or thought there might be a somewhere that deals in second hand loaders.

But if you just have to wait around for one it would be a pain.

Yea he’s dead right fitting loader super expensive later,

I’ve seen mf 6180/ 6170 in you budget around 1998 year with loaders
OK good to know.

I look at 6180 but thought they looked too big at 110hp other wise you could just keep going up.

Unless you are thinking they are superior to 390t. I was told 390 cheap to run...

4 good option ideal loader tractor
5 possible,wouldn’t be my choice
6 decent option new loader expensive tho

I certainly would not want a Case IH 9/1056 on a loader for yard work by choice.
The best choice, IMHO, would be the tidiest larger 4cyl mainstream tractor that the OP can find. Preferably on with some form of shuttle would be ideal.

Top end of you budget 15.5k but these are nice tractors especially for the age they were they were definately leaders,

age refers to loader age tractor is prob around 2000

just look on farm machinery locator jd 6200 there’s a few with loaders as said would be mikes ahead of a thing in your list in terms of usability

Thanks.

Yes I had looked at them but I had ruled them out as my budget meant getting a tractor with 12/13000 miles on it rather than a MF/ ford/ case/ New Holland with 6/7000 on it.

I don't know if that's a huge consideration or not.

Do you know if a JD 6200 handles better than a New Holland as a loader tractor?

There is a JD 6200 there in budget with low hours, does anyone know where I would get a loader and brackets for it?
Thanks.

Few more details would help.

Apart from moving a few pallets what else would it do?
Would a rear mounted forklift work if the amount to be moved is minimal and at set times ?

I would go with a forklift/ rough terrain forklift for the pallets in the yard and a New Holland or JD within budget for the field work.
I’ve a Nissan that’s older than the hills and would use it for unloading pallets or fert wayyy quicker than my loader tractor

Just to say a quick look at loaders by themselves were around £4-5 k. So yes expensive afterthought.

Hi, I tried to keep the info simple as tractor discussions can be quite wide-ranging.
I heard the rear mounted forklift was a pain to use but I've never used one.

I would need a bucket at some point to move material as there is a lot of building work going on and will be for a while.

Yes I have an old manitou forklift just now but if it ever breaks down I'll be stuck. Any time i try to take the 'rough' terrain forklift into a field it gets stuck.
I'll need to move bales and loose materials at some point across fields.
But I am happy to get the best tractor now and get a loader later on. Not really in a rush for a loader, its just the expense of adding it later on.
