who do people on here recommend or soil testing?
You can do your own, just open an account with a Lab , but I'm lucky as Adas have trial plots here so I can use one of their part time lads to do it
Its amazing to see how land improves when you take it back to where it should be , to see the clover come, wonderfull

which lab would recommend? I usually send samples to my local Wynstay but everything has become a bit unreliable since the pandemic it took 2 month for me to get my silage sample results bac

Read the book not one page . If is soil is low in P and K and Short if lime his N is a waste of time . If his K index is high and he puts more K on his sheep could drop like flies .
But as we don't know his best option is to keep everything at a low level
Bet some slag would help it.

Personally I just apply straight N to grazing as it's all going back onto land.

Apply potash on silage ground to replace off take.

How much nitrogen do you apply to grass for grazing sheep and cattle?
Depends on the amount of grass you need, you get out what you put in! If you're a dairy farm looking for every blade of grass then that's very different to a low intensity system.

There isn't a one size fits all approach here. Except you should have your pH at 6 and know what the P and K soil indices are (soil testing....)

Oh yes, and don't forget sulphur too.
