New Cheese Factory in North Wales?

is it up and running yet? Is it supplied by all the spring calvers and something to do with Ackerman? AHDB Dairy guy from N Wales was on about it at a show a few years ago, and how it was going to be a big issue for the other milk buyers up there? Haven't heard any more but it sounded impressive plans

LOT of rumours flying about at the moment ...... but they are just rumours tbh as you hear different stories from different people but I do know that it is not operational at the moment and that there have been "issues" including having to lower the milk storage silos as they were too tall by a metre or so due to the proximity of the RAF runway at Mona

I see newspaper reports saying that is was going to open ready for spring 2018? Have they got producers signed up?

I would think signing producers would be a major sticking point. When would they be paid? Monthly or after the cheese was sold?

All I can say is that nothing appears to have changed on site for months

Taking the tanks up settle I think. Really sad state of affairs Wales has lost about 500 million litres of processing capacity with Llandyrnog and Tomlinsons.

Has this got anything to do with the Anglesey Factory?
Don't know, but the cheese making equipment is going somewhere.

The Mona (Anglesey) site appears to be in limbo at the moment.

It could have made some sense to have bought the Llandrynog site except that the likely milk pool was coming from Anglesey/Lleyn Peninsula so they would be transporting water a larger distance.

Seeing as they looked first at Llandegai near Bangor, then Mochdre near Colwyn Bay then finally started constructing at Mona, a change again would be very odd.
IF it happens - and it’s so far behind schedule now - it would have to be Mona or nowhere imo

Will the milk be all collected from spring calving herds? For the mona site?
What will happen when those herds are dry in the winter, will the factory be closed?
That was the plan according to the AHDB guy I spoke to - they were going to be paying spring calvers full price and shutting in winter. He said that farmers had notice in elsewhere ready to supply and that must have been 2018 so if it's still not up and running I wonder where the milk goes?

Blimey - that's a bit of a cock up....you'd have thought that would be specified at the planning stage!

The investment by both SCC and FM should be lauded by all milk producers no matter who they supply as the increase in processing capacity will start to replace that which has been lost at Whitland,Llangadog, and others.
If this helps the industry to handle Spot flush milk and distress milk(factory break downs) then everyone will benefit, the efforts to construct more capacity in N Wales is still required to handle the ever increasing volume of spring milk

If you knew the place you would be shrugging in frustration. The ind est is on one side of the runway and the hangars and control office on the other. On the RAF buildings side is the radar tower. I cannot imagine that any silo would be half its height. So what's the problem. Have a look on Google Earth.

That was the original idea but then they realised that shutting down for 2-3 months might not be the best way to retain factory staff etc never mind that machinery doesn’t really like not working.

IF it ever gets up and running , I suspect they’d need some AYR or autumn block boys on board.

Fonterra currently paying a better price than most non aligned uk contracts and they don't seem to need Ayr or autumn calves.
