But it’s not the only combine on 4000ac is it?!?!?? Surely you have another just it replaced 2?
I expect it is the only combine “expected” to combine 4000ac in dry sunny ideal conditions in Essex/Herts.
I think TFF member @warksfarmer has some sensible views combining large acreage with one combine, and I entirely agree with him.
All great in theory but there you go.

How can you be so confident that the new machine wont break down? it is a new design after all.
Bit of faith in modern machinery I guess. We have a very good relationship with our local dealer, JD ran just a few X9s in this country last season as demo machines without issue as far as I know and they have been in design for 10 years and some of the parts are off the S series anyway. JD haven't taken the step to a big twin rotor machine lightly. If it does breakdown I would imagine JD and the local dealer will be out pdq and if its down for a while they often have a spare machine sat about and there demo S790 with a 12m header wont be far away.

I’m sure the the other makes/dealers would be on hand pretty dam quick to demo also

our large farm down the road had one of them ten all season and had a van and the panels up quiet often , carne see them replacing there 4 or 5 with 2 , would be better when they move in convoy:)

New roller. The old Kidd has done us very well having been on the farm new in 1970's but at only 8' wide it was painfully slow.

2000-2500 ac max for any of the largest machines. I don’t care what the sales literature has said or farmer ‘jones’ from Outer Mongolia did last year ‘apparently’.

A new 40ft 600hp monster is cutting the same as a 10ft 100hp 30 year old machine in 2012 when the whole country flooded, which is precisely zero tonnes when it’s raining.

One things for sure though the cost of harvesting is increasing ten fold and it’s becoming harder and harder to justify a combine. Thank god for ELMS is all I can say. When they release the next two tiers it’ll be interesting.

I keep seeing arable farmers write that ELMS with be great for them? Why do you think that?

But it depends on so many things.
Cropping, drying capacity, field/block size, number of moves, attitude to risk, geography.
Personally I am cutting 2000 acres in 72 fields in 13 blocks of land with many blocks having more than 1 crop, lots of WW, S Barl, S Oats, and Peas all ready at the same time, 7 customers and no rapid drier in sight. So I wouldn't entertain one combine on double that, but hopefully my Lex 770 should be able to cope.

Given that 6 yr old S680s did roughly 2000 plus acres each last year with 30 ft headers I think this new machine can do considerably more! Agreed when its raining it doesn't matter what combine you have but this machine will go like heck when it dries up and we have the capability to run it well into the night if needed.

Have you changed farm away from your management position you had going DD?

It is certainly individual farm situation dependant, we have a lump of OSR and W barley to get us started early, quite a chunk of wheat and not to much s barley, nearly half the acreage has a good drier to help things out and we have central storage space if needed as well on nearly all the rest. Field sizes do vary from 100 acres+ to 5 acres as a minimum but we are spending a considerable amount of time widening existing gateways or putting in new gateways to ensure header drop offs are kept to a minimum.
