You can see now why retailers won't bother with red tractor. It's not 'their' brand and it certainly has nothing like the market prescience of a brand as used by Nestle and Unilever. If you can't pump more margin out of it, why bother being saddled with the cost?

It's weakness is that it is generic and applied to many different products, which means customers don't understand or value it anyway. This has been my complaint. Since no value can be added, how will any ever be passed back to the farmer?

i wonder if RT pay the farmers weekly to have blenky keep his column :scratchhead: .....fw gets cash (yours😁).....RT keeps it's 'propaganda front + centre:rolleyes:

I doubt it.

He's probably kept on because he has a high opinion of himself.

Certainly to be deemed a bad part of the farming industry for criticising the flaws in the scheme he is employed by doesn't help me warm to him.

If I were RT, I wouldn't engage with this either. I'm sure there has been a word or two said to him internally. Are you expecting RT to hang him out to dry?
Who says he wasn't told to write what he did?

It's unfortunate he made those comments. It was a missed opportunity to tell the farming world what's so effing great about red tractor. Maybe that's why he changed tack and went for the opposition instead, because there's nothing good to say about it despite the fact that it's farmer funded.

I have met Andrew and he is indeed a very nice chap.

The new Red Tractor TV ad
Conveniently forgetting to add that all the livestock products, although British could (and almost certainly will) have been fed on imported, unassured feed grains! Including GM Soya, probably from a former large Wood in Brazil where it rains a lot.

Brilliant!
Is this Deception and/or a lie?

Notice how they fluff it up with animated characters too.
What a joke!

One day RT, you will be giving me all my money back - 20 years worth plus interest!

The very idea they refer to ”red tractor“ as a brand highlights a complete lack of marketing understanding which is beyond concerning !

the “brand” is the product, Hovis, Homepride, Kellogg’s etc a Red Tractor logo is simply a assurance scheme such brands can use to add credibility to a product

RT can never be a “brand” unless they plan to manufacture and retail product called things like “Red Tractor bread” or “ red tractor cornflakes “ etc

Just a small point but I’m not sure a focus group would ever think putting something RED on food packages is a good idea ? In nature RED usually mean only one (very bad) thing !

Anyone know much about the background of staff at Red Tractor ? What are their previous successes that makes them so qualified to tell us how UK products should be marketed ? Same goes for the experts in NFU office ? What makes these farmers so qualified to map out the best route for UK Ag marketing ?

Yeah, red is old hat. Green is the in-colour now!

I did notice in my RT dairy paperwork a line to the effect that RT dairy farms must also join RT beef.

I did wonder if it could one day come back to bite them on the ass just like PPI
Yes, one of my frequent ‘beefs’ about red tractor dairy is I ‘have to’ pay the additional fee for RT beef, despite the fact that the man buying my store bulls at 6 month old is not farm assured and couldn’t give to hoots about their assured status

The thing with these columns in the magazines, is that there really aren't hundreds of farmers lining up to do them. For a lot of them, if you offer to write something each month for free, and have held a pencil before, they'll bite your arm off. So if you have a high enough opinion of yourself, you can get your name in the press without a great deal of effort.
