bit of context recently purchased a 120acre block nice Sandy soil away from main farm 10-15 mins on tractor.

the neighbour opposite great young man has a dairy farm 300 cows very well run.

we have more than enough straw on home farm so was thinking a straw for muck deal on 50 acres. he has no arable I believe so would be a great help to him.

my question is what’s a fair deal 1 ton of straw one ton of muck or more ?

He’s s bailing, carting off and returning the muck and then I spread the lose muck.

he also happy to provide me with some slurry-sand based dug out of the lagoon as long as i pay the Contracter Cost to spread on £30 a hour, with his side discharge spreader. The slurry is analysed and looks good stuff , It would make a great entry for the Maize.

what’s fair for both of us nothing set in stone yet .

thanks

We do 3t muck for 1t straw. We bale cart home, cart back. He spreads it.

It isn't really worth much with free digestate applied for free available also in some areas.

Used to be here but they saw sense and took us out, it’s mad creates more problems than it’s worth , all that’s needed is good grants for slurry muck storage equipment .
Did a joint appeal against the ruling here but was turned down due to trying to protect the North Devon Biosphere.
Of course Barnstaple and Bideford sewage outfalls don't have any effect at all when using the sample result as evidence.
It's easier to point the finger at individuals.

Imagine the savings in fertiliser and environmental impact if we could all utilise manures better than we are now.

I have a muck for straw deal with a neighbour. Our basic plan is we won’t fall out over a heap of sh1t. Muck goes and whatever straw I need arrives. It’s no more complicated than that. I think you can easily get too bogged down in working out the value of muck.

@farmerman if you like the lad and get on well crack on and settle on something that works for both of you for a number of years and is simple.
