Stock bull.
For sale as to many daughters!
That’s good there doing well for you! I think there very underrated. Where have you sourced your bulls from and what breeding are they? I really like the look of the Blackwater Ainsley bulls. I also seen a bull years ago Bridge Cracker-Jack he was something else never seen one like him but unsure if there any going around by him.Blondes quite as mice.
But we round them every day, so all the cows are. Bull will wander over for a scratch if he sees you.
Killing out wise, don't know our % but we always in top 5% market prices and regular buyers as know they kill out very well.
Think blondes have best killing out % officially, or did.
Blonde limo cross works well for us.
As above 14 month roughly to market fit.
He’s a cracker what a length and good shape! Who’s this fella and what’s his breeding? How old?
Blackwater ainsley his dad i think. He’s a cracker what a length and good shape! Who’s this fella and what’s his breeding? How old?
Want a Cuddley one ?Temperament is my top criteria when picking out potential breeding bulls, anything that looks at us funny or I can't tie up is Bakewell bound.
Oh great could you let me know how he’s bred I’d be interested in him. Where was he bred? Is he easily calving?Blackwater ainsley his dad i think.
He will be about 7+ now.
Weighed over a ton when we bought him at Carlisle and he grown a bit since!!
Soft as a brush, justikes to scratch on teleporter when your bedding down
Will check his pedigree when back in tonight.Oh great could you let me know how he’s bred I’d be interested in him. Where was he bred? Is he easily calving?
They would be on ad lib surely ?Ahh right so in that case the OP will have to keep the bulls another 3/4 months and give them at least double the hard feed they prob are getting when sold at 10/11 months.
We kill approx 80% of the pure bulls, only keep the very best couple to sell for breeding. It's something we've always done and always will do, I'm always suspicious of anyone who claims to sell everything as a breeding bull!Roughly how many do you kill? Pure and cross and what’s your grades/ kill %. What’s there rough daily gain? What are you finishing them on? Defo going for a blonde bull next gonna cull out the lims there too wild and there bedded daily (hand rolled).
He looks to have good width where did you get him from? What’s his breeding?
I think what let’s the blondes down the most is people aren’t ruthless enough and don’t cull the rubbish. It’s good to see you do the opposite! You seem to be getting rather good results from your cattle I’d be very happy with those gains. Do you also finish much of your heifers? We kill approx 80% of the pure bulls, only keep the very best couple to sell for breeding. Don't know about grades and killing out as we sell everything live through our local market. Although we did hear back on 2 that came back as U+ and killed at around 63% from memory.
Not weighed any since Jan, but then the weaned bulls were doing around 1.5kg, top ones close to 1.9kg. Will weigh again in the next week or 2 hopefully. Current diet is good quality haylage and an 18% rearer nut. Might drop the protein in a month or 2, either add barley or cut out the haylage for straw, but they are growing well and are well fleshed atm.
There's a few too many that think "it's got a pair of balls so it'll make a breeding Bull", but I guess you'll get that in any breed.I think what let’s the blondes down the most is people aren’t ruthless enough and don’t cull the rubbish. I think the breed has come a long way but I feel it lacks a lot with good genetics being widely available ie semen and embryos. I’d say this is where the limousine has excelled. Also I feel breeders don’t use the breeds auctions well enough as your lucky if there’s 10 bulls at one sale now a days so it’s hard to get a good bull. Do you know if there are many cattle entered for the up and coming sales?
They would be on ad lib surely ?
Well hopefully it improves your herd in the long run! Well good luck hope you get a good price for them! Do you finish much pure heifers? There's a few too many that think "it's got a pair of balls so it'll make a breeding Bull", but I guess you'll get that in any breed.
Thanks, this is the first year of weighing our cattle so it's been very interesting to see how they are performing. Hopefully it will help me make improvements and breed better cattle.
We have been finishing all of our crossbred heifers for the last few years, but I'm thinking of selling last yrs as stores looking at the trade atm, fingers crossed we pass the tb test on Friday. We finish them at around 500-550kg at around 15mths, again sold live through our local market.
The lack of Blonde bulls on AI is a problem, the main AI companies don't seem interested in stocking any for some reason. There are a couple of new bulls released this year, one at Norbreck and the other privately. I've just ordered a batch of French and Irish bulls via Mastergen.
Funny you mention the sales, we were only discussing this on Monday night. A lot of bulls are now sold privately, via Facebook etc. so aren't coming forward to the sales, how we change that I'm not sure. The Worcester sale isn't going ahead this year unfortunately, Carlisle entries haven't closed yet and we're looking into hosting an online sale in a couple of months.
2.2 ton is where i have mine at guthThe bulls will need to be on ad lib and will eat anything between 1.7/2.2 ton head by 15/16 months..
What would a suckler steer eat by 11 months? 0.5/1t head of a high protein feed if you push them hard?
