Road Registering a Tractor in the UK

Hi guys,

Am desperately hoping someone on here can help me out with a few bits. My boss has recently purchased a New Holland Boomer 50, and neither he nor I know a thing about tractors! He bought it from a private party, and we essentially were given next to no documentation. I managed to get a certificate of conformity but the DVLA form (V55/4) is so confusing, and there are certain bits I cant fill out even with the documents. They might seem obvious to you all but I have had no experience with this whatsoever!

-Tax Class
-CO2 (g/km)
-Mass in service (kg)
-Variant
-Version
-Euro Status
-Euro Status directive no

If anyone could guide me in the right direction/ provide me with this info, I would be forever grateful. Thanks!

I've answered what I can above for you from your certificate.

As it's not an EU machine I don't know where you'd find the last 2, sorry.

Make sure you have confirmation of NOVA, as without that you won't get a registration whatever. It's the tax paid confirmation that happens with first import, so should be easy enough if you took it in but not so much so if relying on another importer. I was lucky that Honda helped me out when I did the V55 for my S/H quad, but remember it being not easy.

Didn't see anything on the gov website requiring NOVA? What is it? Have sent the form now so hopefully they'll contact me if something is missing, highly doubt it though!

If the form is in, then they will be fairly decent to deal with. NOVA is to do with import tax, and if they can't manage to cross check the VIN to some register they have of imported vehicles. I had to get a letter from the importer to confirm that they had paid the relevant taxes as first import. It's a few years ago now, and I can't remember all the details, sorry.

Edit: https://assets.publishing.service.g...-import-a-vehicle-into-the-united-kingdom.pdf

Has a bit more detail - did you import it yourselves?

Nova is not only import tax its also more importantly whether any VAT is due or if other been paid.

You won't get a registration without a nova register number.

If its a vehicle that is common already in the UK then certificate of conformity is normally easy to get. Most have a copy in the operator's manual.

Another tip when asking for new registration mark it as sorn at the same time

You won't need to prove insurance until you tax it.

Having a nightmare with dvla and registering a tractor that was imported by a dealer and came with a European reg plate attached :cautious:

had all the paperwork sent to the dvla in October still waiting and now they are requesting the original docs despite the fact they were sent in October and lost so reapplied in January with copies but that not good enough as they aren’t original:mad: so don’t expect to be going on the road anytime soon and use recorded post
