Calf cart

Anyone using a calf cart for moving young calves about and have an opinion on them? Seems to be a few on the market some more pricey than others. Currently just walk calf’s from calving shed to calf house but looking to make the task somewhat easier, thought the integrated head yoke might make tagging and ringing safer and more straightforward as well.

I'm planning on buying a man basket for the telehandler, with brackets on to save having to use the forks. Making it quick to hook on and off. Would be handy to have for fixing gutters etc, but would be mostly used for moving calves.

We use a man cage or trailer behind the quad bike to move them from the calving yard to the calf shed which is about 800 feet away.

I also have a blue drum cut long ways to move them about in the shed. Depending where they calf and where we want them while they are on their mothers. If they are a bit lively I hog tie them with a velcro strap.

My nephew made this basket, I like you wanted handler brackets for ease of use, he said they won't accept them for testing without full width fork slots, one over cautious operator now only uses the forks.

I have a link box for back of tractor used for larger moves or if cows are calving outdoors, was thinking of the calf cart for ease of use.

I have a "caf cart", I've had it a while now, IIRC the chap we bought it from was importing them from the US. Tim Gibson is selling a similar one but his has solid tyres but mine has tube tyres which have now both been replaced. It works well, it has a little head yoke so I also use it for disbudding.

+1 for caf cart, had one for about 5 yrs, even a 6'5" mountain of a man tires of carrying calves about like an atlas stones challenge when he reaches his half century

Are these still available? Any idea of current price? Thanks.
yes still available. price will be around £550 .
best thing is to call Matthew Moore (he makes them) and sort out payment/carriage etc.
His number is 07734 934793
he will probably even do a better price if you can find your own 26" bike wheels for it! 😉

If you pulling a calf cart over a lot of deep straw pens id recommend getting one bespoke made in aluminium, it would be much easier to pull.
