Limousin Society

I noted with intrest the recent statement by the chairman of the Limousin society re abuse of its staff on social media. I know there have been some strange goings on but didn’t realise it had got that bad.
Being a board member and trustee of a few organisations it seems the folk with off centre views are using social media to promote their views rather than discussing them in a rational manner.

I’ve nothing against the lim society however it’s not worth registering females now so they’ve lost out on 20 registrations from us.

Spoiled by a few spivs.
I think all breeds will loose registrations, I've heard a lot of people say they're cutting back and several have said they aren't registering any calves as pedigree.

There's too much nonsense with SNP and costs are getting ridiculous if you're going to society sales, and if you're not going to society sales what's the point in having cattle registered.
There's too much cost involved in running a pedigree herd as commercials.

Does the risk of losing cattle to Tb have a bearing on deciding on the merits of registering cattle? The difference in compensation rates between commercial and pedigree on a beast covers the cost of a number of registrations.
This is the reason we’ve kept registering for so long.

However the costs and above all inconvenience of all the DNA testing rubbish is something I can do without.

By the time you pay more for them or dance to the tune of a breed society that has ever increasing rules and costs it may make more sense just to jack it.

Now the Luing folks are getting involved

I’ve no idea of what goes on but they will make the limousin a rare breed in the uk if they carry on. Even we can see they are a shower of shxt and we only buy pedigree bulls for use on commercial cows

I feel the society have made a laughing stock of the breed from the whole Ballinloan scandal! Nothing wrong with the breed it’s self but when people are spending thousands on what are suppose to be good pure genetics and then find out they may not be and can’t sell there offspring. Many still don’t know the truth and probably never will. Even Jaegerbomb it’s still unknown what breed he actually is. I feel for all those breeders affected! I have 12 pure lim cows and 4 stock bulls, had 14 over the years, I won’t be buying anymore and I’m going to be replacing them with blondes as I feel I cannot trust the society it’s all a farce.

I remember years ago a bull been sold by a relatively well known name which the auctioneer announced that the catalogue wasnt right as said bull wasnt the sire.

I dont disagree with the dna'ing as we are going polled so need to test to know what's hetro and homo polled, and it is keeping things right. But from talking to someone else about this DNA lot, that they are unable to test a sample and then find its sire, eg they wont search for its sire they have to be told what sire it could be and wont search any further.

Some breeds you don't have to DNA test and the additional costs for registration is not very much.
How much is it to DNA test and register a limmy ?
I am assuming that is the breed you keep, sorry if it isnt

Yes,Limousin,£25 per calf.

Its the faffing with testing which has put us right off,too much extra work and faffing.

Don‘t need the hassle for no benefit.

Yes I spose if you have a fair few and don't sell at a premium because they are registered then it adds up and is more messing about taking samples and sending them off rather than just registering them on line of an evening like we have to with blues

I take it the £25 incudes the DNA test ? I couldn't see anything to say different on the link

there was talk a year or so ago of having to DNA sample for blue registrations but not heard any more about it yet, I spose it will happen if that's what the powers that be want, I am quite happy with things as they are just check anything that could be one of two sires.
birth registration is more expensive for Blues but we will carry on registering them as we do get asked if they are pedigree or not when selling them also there is TB comp to consider if/when we get unlucky
