Most companies pay their sales team on RGP (retained gross profit) . That way they sell at a margin that is fair and ensures the company makes money. I know some reps that stay approx 2 years at dealers. They sell lots at very low profit then when it finally catches up with them, they move on and start again!. I knew one chap that had 5 jobs in 6 years!They usually are, however in some cases it does not appear to work. everyone in sales should be paid on performance, that's what get's them out of bed in a morning.
I am a firm believer in a sales reward system that pays a basic+commission+% of profit+ overall profit sharing. All incentives for them and the Company to do well.
Selling volume at low margin is all well and good, and helps future spare parts trade, however a little less, with a little more profit is also a good solution.
Turnover = Vanity
Profit = Sanity
