Getting quotes for the above machines (10cube).

I guess they are much the same but am interested in people's experiences.

TIA
James
When we looked into the job this year it was noticeable an abbey 10 was a lot smaller then the bvl 10, apparently some irish companies quote capacity without the auger while the Germans quote with the auger in, and it seems to make a fair difference.

Interesting, I’ve noticed some of the Irish trailer manufacturers quote trailer size based on axle ratings, i remember some years ago looking at a 13 ton Irish trailer, it was the same dimensions as my 10 ton.

Also heard it said that some of the Irish tanker manufacturers quote size of barrel before cut outs for wheels.

Buyer beware

In Ireland we buy trailers on their length. 16ft 18ft 20ft etc

Used strautmann would be worth twice as much as abbey machine. I would expect a fair difference in purchase price but interested to hear what halse can do. Lots of straut round here and only good reports

I will say that I am inclined towards the Abbey as I have always liked the look of them and I am only feeding beef cattle. What ever we buy we will have for a long time so m not sure if second hand values will matter. The machine that we are hoping to replace is a Keenan Easy Feeder 100 refurb that has had one load of wagon silage too many.

We are now trading our strautmann in after 12 years service, only spend on it has been blades. Would have had another but dealer back up has gone round here and when we did have a slight issue, which resolved itself, it was difficult to speak to anyone who knew anything about the machine. We have gone for a shelbourne principally because the factory is 40mins up the road and their back up is supposedly very good according to others around us.

We went from a Klassik 140 to a Strautmann 1451 (12 cube). The tub is nearly twice as big. Its brilliant compared to a green machine, two round bales chucked in no problem.

Why do you say "only beef cattle"? There's nothing "only" about my beef cattle.

It was in regard to the cost of the various machines etc. Just want a machine with a couple doors and an elevator on one side.

Shelbourne also came in cheaper then strautmann and they were willing to do a couple of modifications for us as part of the deal. Think it's a case of you can speak directly to the people you need too rather than just a rep.

Abbey here, I like it. Won't mix much less than 1200kg though, it just sits on the auger
The bvl guy visited our farm and measured up the feed passages and as we wanted small mixes of about 1000kg for different classes of cattle and sheep he recommended an 8 as it would mix better than a 10. So far so good after a few teething troubles getting it to discharge dry stuff
