It’s not as black and white as you imply Ollie. It shouldn’t be either as that is part of the flaw of RT like schemes.
Some excellently run hill sheep farms may not have a Vet visit within 365 days (but then maybe a couple the next month). Their requests for any POM’s will be assessed as to suitability of the request, often by phone call or other communication at the time. The important bit is that they are meaningfully ‘under the care as a flock or herd’ of the prescribing Vet. The responsibility is ensuring that the medicine is used properly and appropriately. Visiting a calving cow last May has no relevance to dispensing a bottle of Alamycin LA for a lame sheep today. The RCVS know this.
Some of the most dire and poorly run units can have many more Vet visits in the 365 day window. Box ticked. Assurance meaningless.
Im 100% behind responsible antimicrobial stwewardship, I think we all are, but this does not come from arbitrary rules but rather good professional relationships.

How do you prove 365 day compliance?

365 inspections...! 😆
even then you could have inspections in the morning and when they had gone do what you like, no what is needed is 24 hour surveillance of every cow/sheep, blade of grass ear of corn, wouldn't want anything out of line would we.

gets more like animal farm every day and not the dirty version either

I honestly can't "imagine his disbelief".

Also what I can't believe is that Farmers Weekly let him write about Red Tractor with a note on the article saying how he is affiliated to them. It's hardly impartial farmer commentary that it purports to be.

Unless of course Red Tractor have actually sacked him now.
