Could anyone who runs one of these give me any good and bad points about them please? Common faults, output etc. Also does it smash the straw up badly or is that not as bad as is made out.
many thanks

We used to have one then we upgraded to the 8.90.
Was a decent enough combine, ours was remapped. we blocked it in osr a fair bit if it was green the rotors would block up
Had to change the main front drive belt every season, would eat belts for some reason. Had plenty of bearing issues.
I think just normal combine problems. Output was good in a decent crop, it would smash straw up if it was late in the season and very hot but no worse than anything else maybe. Ours was on a 24ft header

Rather disappointing output wise to a 9080. Mechanically sound as most NH’s are but we felt it’s an under-performer. But I’ve heard of complaints about narrow body Claas as well. I’m just not sure of the point in them to be honest. If somebody wants a rotary then generally they want output, but then opt for a narrow version which restricts output considerably. The newer straw Walker machines will outperform and will have a better residual value.
There’s a reason not many 9070’s are available on the used market and it’s because they’ve not sold many. 980/9080 are easily available which tells you a story.

When you say disappointed with the output, what roughly would it do in a good 4t crop of wheat. We currently run a cx820

I’m not familiar with a 820 I’m afraid but we went from a 6 straw Walker claas into a 9070 and there was negligible output difference. Both had 25ft headers. In 4t of wheat in big fields you’ll be around 25-30t/hour on the combine clock where as the 9080 with 30ft header will do 40t/hour.
As said nothing wrong with the 9070 mechanically but it wasn’t a jump in output we were looking for.

Narrow body claas rotaries seem to be popular?

750s and 760s command more money used than 770,780.

We have a 2005 570 with over 3k hours.

Maybe New Holland just got it wrong.

So, it wasn't the combine for you but it looks like you needed a bigger one anyway. For the OP running an 820, it would probably be more output.
@FarmerBruce there are plenty of threads about the straw Walker v rotary debate. I've read a lot and recently bought a cr960, so nervous days ahead!😮

We had a demo of a 9070 against our 980. They were the same HP, but we were doing the same speed with the 980 and 30ft as the 9070 with 25ft. In addition the straw was unbaleable behind the 9070 but okay behind the 980. It was a very hot day though on ripe wheat.
