One of my best friends is a parts manager for BMW text him there now. He said watch out for air suspension, make sure its had all its recalls and good service. Avoid the 40 and 50d because lots of turbos mean engine out to do any work.

We have had both an x3 2.5 petrol and an x5 30d model, both were amazing cars really, both hardly knew they were towing the cattle trailer, I was also pretty impressed with both in the severe snow, and also generally off road around the farm.

On a general note, the front and rear tyres are a different size on these cars and are very expensive to replace. If you ever follow an X5, maybe you've noticed that the rear wheels tilt in at the top very noticeably. The standard 3.0 turbo diesel is going to be the engine fitted to the new Grenadier at launch, which they hope will be ultra reliable and easy and relatively cheap to repair in the field. They are in cloud-cuckoo land :p It's a BMW engine for goodness' sake. Nothing about it apart maybe for the oil filter is made for durability or easy servicing.

X5's are lovely to drive as long as you avoid the harsh go-cart-like Sport pack, which unfortunately most have. Parts are very expensive of course as they are for all cars that are well over £50k new, and remain so as the cars get older and need more replacement parts and repairs.

If none of that matters, and it won't for many people [not judging here], then it is a great vehicle and tows very nicely. It is a bit noisy when towing with the removable hitch because the hitch frame is bolted directly to the car's body and not to a separate chassis with rubber mounts between it and the body. No worse than the latest JLR vehicle or VAG cars in that regard though. That's just how modern SUV's are being built these days.

What about a Range Rover Sport, low range diff locks and air suspension. Had two V8 diesels in the past so no crank problems. Local independent specialist or non franchised dealer more than capable of working on them.

Does the X5 have air suspension?

I’m sorry, it’s just a standing joke around here that so few BMW’s indicate at junctions, it’s assumed that indicators are optional! 😁

Not only do they seem to be optional but I'm bloody sure that when they are fitted they've got a proximity sensor to stop them working more than 10ft from a junction...

Or a switch so they only start flashing when the steering wheel starts to turn...

Or summat 😂😂😂
