I’ve seen a few calves and they look ok normally black but would think they would come a bit plainAny idea how they cross on dairy cows?
What is his name?Huntershall have a son of Conan , straws of him a available . On the Irish forum they all use elderberry galahad for easy calving over there
OdysseyWhat is his name?
Easily calved but lean as wood, would be my guess. Keep hearing that Salers are bad to finish. If the females are similar, I can't really understand their popularity as a suckler. A suckler cow should transfer blubber from summer into winter.Any idea how they cross on dairy cows?

Easiest calving lim I’ve found is Tomschoice lexicon we use him over AAx and BBx cows and the calves squirt out - only ones I’ve had to pull are the odd one with a leg back or a breech, calves grow like mushrooms and you wont recognise them after a month
My thoughts would be that fertility would suffer if the cows are hard fleshing. They are hard finished alrite but their popularity as suckler cows is because of their good calving ability, hardiness, good feet, good milk, tidy udders and their most important quality when you put a Charolais bull on them you get a hairy golden yellow calf that buyers go mad for. They're easily maintained over the winter compared to tanks of Limousin, Charolais or Simmental cows.
It is possible to have both. Oakchurch Duster (AA) is of the scale for both. The other thing I don't understand about salers is if the bulls are easy calving then how are daughters such good calvers. Do they p produce a narrow calve that also has width?
What are they like size wise as weanlings?
Do you think Lexicon would be a good bull to breed replacement heifers from?

They’re actually a dual purpose breed in France with many being milked to produce high end Cantal and Salers cheesesEasily calved but lean as wood, would be my guess. Fair enough. I have no personal experience of them, just going by what I've heard (seen in a minor way). What's your experience of temperament?Yeah i can see why you would think that but their fertility is very good in my experience.
Salers being easy calved and being good calvers themselves does seem like a contradiction also but the females have a wide pelvis usually.

I was told that they have a very strong herd instinct, hence their reputation for poor temperament?Similar to limousins i think, there's no doubt that there has been poor docility with some bloodlines but i think it has improved a lot in recent years.
Has Hamlet died then for there to be no more semen? Think we have a 100 of his doses in the genus flask. We've used him a lot over the last few years and he's done us really well. We have also kept some of his daughters and kept two bulls out of him. Both have exceptional temperament . Been told some of his calves can be quiet flighty thought. Not seen that here.Hamlet is a very easy calving bull but you can't get him anymore. Why wouldn't you save any Hamlet heifers for breeding? I ask cuz I,ve got several to calve (to an AA)
