Free flow return.

I have a trailed sprayer needing a constant hyd flow to operate the booms. The two pipes are plugged into the standard couplings on the tractor. No problem until I changed the tractor to another. I find the return pipe has popped out a couple of times.
What's the problem.
Worn coupling?
Too high a flow?

Would you not be as well to connect it into the free flow fitting to keep the oil cool? We borrowed a machine lately which uses constant oil, plugged into double acting spool valve. Our tractor has a temp sensor in the hydraulics and it went off after 10 minutes. Just showed me that the same machine on another brand of tractor was probably heating the oil without the operator knowing..

I know some people have a 1ins return. Presumably this is to help keep oil from getting too hot

This is what the bigger bore free flow return is for. It will also help avoid getting the pipes mixed up and forcing oil up the lines of case drains etc. which blows seals.

Is the new tractor open centre or closed centre and what was previous one open or closed?

Some hydro gearboxes like Vario/Autopower don't like bubbles in the oil that you can get from a high level return port. Sometimes it's best to use a return port below the level of the back end oil. I was recommended this by JD dealers for a sprayer with a hydraulic pump, power beyond & load sensing with a free flow return. I can't speak for New Hollands.

The oil is being pumped round through the system all the time, returning it through the filler bung short circuits the process
John deere and new Holland tractors have needed the return modified in our tractors because they blow oil out the breather in standard form.

They are both new holland. Open centre i believe. The tractor giving the problem was older so probably a worn coupling. I slowed down the flow rate too as little is needed to fold booms.
A friend moved his sprayer from a jd to a nh. Different systems. Just burst pipes. It was a hardi sprayer. It just needed some valve changed on the sprayer.
