Has anyone else had problems with the clip shearing on the shaft between the main gearbox and disc?. Had it happen to me 3 times now, so put an 8.8 bolt in lieu of the clip and it still shears. Can't find any play in the gearboxes. Can spread a load or 2 before it shears and sometimes just a few hundred kilos.

Some tractors snatch when you engage the pto, this may weaken the shear bolt or clip what ever it has, but i suppose if it,s shearing near the disk end it,s probably not this. Maybe to much ware in the holes.

Next to the gearbox on either side (under the spreading disc) there is a rubber or nylon disc, like a damper plate, its designed to take out the pto engagement snatch. Over time it tears and generally fails. Have a look there.

Very good, Kubota own Kv and Vicon, so the machines are available in all 3 colours and branding. We had a Vicon RS XL, now up graded to a Kubota with weigh cells and a bigger hopper.

When it's not shearing pins, what are they like as a spreader? Seen a couple for sale lately that look like they would do my job
I've had it 7 seasons from new, put 40 to 50 ton through it a year and sow grass seed with it. Not a bad spreader but certainly not the best. Had an amazone previous and a vicon wagtail previous to that and never spent a penny on them.

I've seen very little trouble with this. Item 10 shouldn't be under any actual load. The lemon shaped tube should be slid sideways and greased for annual service. You could drill the hole in the sleeve slightly bigger so the profile is definitely transmitting the drive, not the pin..

The nylon disc that I described is in the above picture, its shown almost complete in the bottom left corner, to the left of item no 13

From what I can see, the pin takes all of the load as item 16 is a round shaft which the lemon tube sits on, bit like a shear bolt. I'll examine that nylon plate 1st ,then if the problem persists the drill will definitely be going to it! I often read on here how good a spinner they are, think mine is a Friday spinner at times.

There is a nylon plate on both sides, make sure you check both, if one has torn then the other either has, or is about to, they were not expensive from memory. The tear in the nylon is not always obvious so it might be necessary to dismantle the sandwich of couplings and the damper plate.

None of these issues with my now 7seasons old just about TL Geospread & its much the same idea, ive replaced them pins 2 year ago as they were just a bit rusty for my liking.
Now layer them with more grease/oil than i did before.
Set pto away on tickover is essential & more so on tractors with Eco 540pto as the shock to a greater speed on drive take-up will be more.

My previous machine was a CL putting around 250-300t a year trough and only problem I had was the weigh cell bolts corroding through and snapping after 4 years. Just gone to a TL for more capacity.

Do you knock the revs off before disengaging the pto? There’s no overrun on the pto shaft so the tractor pto brake will stop the shaft/disks dead which could be straining the pin.

Snapping weigh cell bolts Chrikey cant say ive ever had that (Yet)
layer the buggers with Oil/Diesel when stored after its washed is about all we can do.
Just about to fit new Vanes to mine to finish the last Nitrogen in a couple of weeks time.
Originals done well i think & there quite cheap infact.

CL has much smaller m12 bolts and cells compared to the TL. They also sit in a recess which makes it difficult to clean the back side of them and the corrode inside where they run through the cell. Not a big job to swap and only a couple of £ but something to keep an eye on! The whole machine gets a good oil spray when it’s laid up 👍

Do it all properly, even spray it with old oil at the end of the season and it gets washed after use every time. Another problem I find with it is the amount of fertiliser dust that gets everywhere, even on the back of the tractor. I've adjusted the 4 bolts above the disc to 1mm when its half full using a gauge. Any tips on stopping the dust?

Always gets washed off after every use and oiled up when laid up. Found a couple of pictures to show where it brakes the bolts, as you can see it’s sat in a recess and it actually snaps under the retaining plate. There’s also a guard covering it so not the easiest plastic to keep clean!

Ps, I’m sure my new TL has stainless bolts in it now as well.

As for dust I think it depends on what you spreading. I can do a full day on one product and the machine will be spotless then a different product you have to clean the tail lights every time you come out the field! Every the new one can get a bit of dust on the back.

Thanks. As it's a non moving part, didn't think it needed grease! Apart from sliding the shaft to the side for changing parts on it, didn't think it required grease. What grease would you put on? Copper slip?
