What would one expect from a 2nd hand machinery purchase.

Not really had much experience in buying machines myself, but took delivery of 2 machines this last month.
Both 10 years old. Not a massive money either of them but both priced about right from what I see.
Both from dealers.

Couple of niggles with them now. But what would be peoples expectations of 2nd hand machine purchases.
Where is the line of going back to dealer and "complaining" or accepting it is what it is?

If through a dealer, unless 'sold as seen'. then I would expect a bit of a warranty on them. You will have paid a premium to the dealer, over buying at auction somewhere.

Depends on the machine of course, but I would half expect more issues to arise on most ten year old machines, compared to new, which is likely why they were moved on by the previous owner. That's why they were cheaper.

I’d expect a ‘First field’ warranty. If it isn’t ‘fit for purpose’ or ‘as advertised’ when you first try it out then the dealer should resolve any issues or take it back.

But also consider, you’re buying a used machine.
If you’re expecting everything to be ‘as new’, buy a new machine. Some people seem to confuse the two.

Absolutely, I expect it not to be brand new. Just asking the question as to where the line is.

if its faulty i would expect them to fix it, everyone wines on about sh!t dealers having no comeback (usually extremely cheap machines too) then go to a reputable dealer and say what do you expect its 10 years old?,

i expect a reputable dealer to stand by their product to a fair amount or why would you use one?

The ammount of threads starting to crop up on this subject is getting boring, or people are not listening.

What did you and the dealer agree when you purchased the machines, and what was written on the invoice/order to confirm this ?

The time is very quickly coming where Ag dealers are going to be like the car trade. Only retailing good s/h equipment that has come from a good home, fully serviced and sold with a warranty. All the rest of the cxxp flogged to the s/h wheeler and dealers at cost to get rid of it.

Selling a high spec, technical piece of expensive equipment now requires a person with different skills to that of those peddling s/h worn out metal.

I'll just say what the problems are, otherwise there is no context to it.
N.b I am not complaining - probably not the right word to of used in the OP. I am just merely asking what people expect from used machines.
I haven't spoken to either dealer yet or maybe will not. I am not "slagging" them off as the service was good from both off them.
All issues are probably solved straightforward.

Fertiliser spinner, left hand opening ram leaks - alot.

Telehandler. A few things I didnt notice when a viewed, but they are all things with age. However - grabs won't stay open. They will close on gravity, this obviously interferes will its functionality.
Cab fan. Didn't work when I viewed but was told it would be. It certainly works but no air actually comes through the vents.

🙂

That's exactly what I offer on older kit.
it's not reasonable to expect that everything will work as it did when it left the factory nor should you expect to get a full season out of it without a routine breakdown like a bearing go or belt snap etc.
If I sell something in working order then I'd expect the customer to hook it up and go to work with little or no fuss

Fertiliser spinner - Sold as Seen. But also they were willing to pay a % up to an amount (I forget) to solve issues that arise.🤷‍♂️

Shouldn't have been sold with a badly leaking ram. That's not acceptable IMO.

The telehandler issue, dealer may not be aware. Mine does exactly the same. Opens and closes locking pins fine. But we'd had it a month before we put a grab on to discover it closes on its own
