Liquid N scorch

What were the weather conditions like when you applied it? How close to other applications of sprays?
I've got away with less scorching this year, I got N2 on before the month of frosty nights and N3 has just gone on in rain showers this week

What nozzles, what pressure, what height above crop, was the crop stressed by other things? To close to a herbicide or fungicide application? Time of day? Dew or no dew?

Everything has scored this year - pgr, liquid N, grass weed herbicides.
Yes worst year for scorch I've had. Crop was stressed with cold and dry and was already getting hungry when N2 went on, as I'd held off longer than I wanted to trying to avoid frosts. I always think hungry crops scorch much worse than when your on top on N applications.

You need to add Mancozeb or Elemental sulphur to dull the scorch effect.
I use Ammonium sulphate,would that be comparable in effect on scorch?

There are sometimes quite a few impurities that actually cause scorch. The idea of the above is to create a film on the leaf that stops the sun, frost or wind doing damage.

I'm adding molasses to my final application next week . Will do some trial (missed ) strips and post results .

Yes. Triticale looks shocking to be honest. In hindsight probably a bit late applying as in my head it’s wheat but an early wheat so I think maybe I was 4 weeks late applying it’s first N. I’m in the habit of drilling wheat in late October into November so at this point the triticale had been in the ground a month. Bigger plants have a bigger risk of scorch so lesson learned.

Will any molasses do ? I've used an EEDF Mann product in the past, which gave good results in the past to reduce scorch on a late application. It was expensive. Think it was called black gold

Yes the product i used was filtered fairly thoroughly, hence the expense i guess.

On the subject of liquid N.
I was considering it on WOSR once flowering is complete. I was advised not to as scorch was a risk.
I see the AHDB suggest late liquid N can give a good response so that’s what had me thinking.
Any comments?

Consistency of responses has not always been there in drier climates. With good yield potential, a high clearance sprayer and rain after application, why not? What product were you thinking of? Liquid fertiliser or a Poly N type?

The product I had in mind was Omex Nitro Flo (26N, 2S).
Have 24m and good clearance, crop looks worth minding too.
