Construction industry losing red diesel

Sorry if this has been posted before.
With the construction industry losing red diesel, what will be the situation in 2022 regarding highway maintenance etc such as hedge trimming , snow clearing etc, which is OK for farmers to do at the moment without flushing tanks.
Cant see many farmers wanting to do that at 5AM in a blizzard!

Just have to charge higher rates. This isn't like food production.......

can’t see customs and excise dipping many tanks in a blizzard at 5am

That's going to be a minefield, red diesel to take a load of fertilizer off a wagon, then the next lorry has roof tiles and concrete blocks on do i have to change to white?

Doing horse padocks none ag should be white anyway done know regarding none agg hedge cutting i would off thought white now anyway on way there and back traveling but ok when doing it
But read in my nfu magazine snow and gritting still ok on red

Why is the construction industry losing red? Makes no sense. Red is for machines that aren't really used on the highway except in limited cirumctances?

Government needs a bit of cash and construction is flush.

I can’t see the situation changing re hedge cutting and snow clearing. The reason these activities were given exemptions was because they wanted farmers to do the operations and realised that they wouldn’t if they had to change fuel and taxation class.

No minefield and no need to change fuel, you should be on white all the time in this situation. The rules for being able to use red in an Ag machine clearly state that Red is only allowed in machines used SOLELY for Ag purposes, in this instance you’re not using it solely and therefore it’s white.

I think if anyone needs to be taxed because they are flush, it is the like of Amazon and other tech companies, who are destroying our town infrastructure through the present tax structure and not putting anything back.

Surely they should scrap it completely then and save confusion, perhaps offer a rebate on the tax at vat time. It's just going to encourage fuel theft and make crooks of honest people, seems like the working world in this country, is getting worse not better.

But our telescopic never leaves the farm but often unloads blocks, pipes and steel work if were building sheds or renovating the older buildings.
I think farm diggers will be another grey area...

Hedgecutting is an agricultural operation so will remain the same on red fuel.
Land drainage the same.

How do you think the government are going to persuade us to go green?

By taxing the dirty diesel and those who use it.
We will be next.
No other economic way to make us change to the green alternative. Green has to be cheaper so make everything dirty more expensive by tax. Win win from their point of view.
