i know it depends on how well these have been treated, but I was wondering how many hrs is a decent ride on mower good for ?
Not sure about hours, but we find the mountfield type cost circa £1500 just aren't hard enough.
The hustvarna mentioned above seems much more robust. and doesn't block up when the grass is damp

For that sort of budget or a fraction over you can have a proper diesel commercial machine. It'll make the husqvarna machines look like toys.
this sort of thing would be my choice

that is a bit big and awkward for me unfortunately

any recommendations for a good smaller machine

I have one big lawn and 2 smaller ones and a 200m drive between the two

To be honest zero turns are anything but awkward. Far nicer and easier to use than conventional mowers. That is a big one admittedly but smaller are available

Got a bit more you’d get the Z122r Kubota s turn , it’s a petrol , Kawasaki but one hell of a mower! Will start with a 3 plus vat, fss as I long that a gr1600 will be uour thing? Most are collectors, 2 cyl 13 no diesel! Great mower

is there any Zero turn which can collect the grass as well
ya i have a kubota gzd15 which collects as well it is the high tip box so great for tipping in to trailers or over walls. probably tips over 4ft
good machine overall, need to mindful of the rear basket when turning due to tailswing. need to be gentle too with tuning on zero turn machines to not scuff the grass. but its a quick and fairly nimbe machine.
