Not sure what arrest is or if we are allowed to use it over here, we have pour on fly control products for cattle and they all have one thing in common, they don't fecking work
Few different ones here. Some work better than others. Some make the milkers cranky for a day or so, some dont. Any pour on has to state on the label if it (anything for that matter) has a milk with holding period. Otherwise cant use it on lactating cattle.

Ok. First point. Only backlined for flies during summer (warmer months(.

). Flies are not a problem at the moment as it's to cold for them.

Now on to feedlots. EVERY local shire has rules around the size of a feedlot before it can go ahead / expand exponentially. If its not approved it doesn't happen. Simple. These rules cover welfare standards, environmental standards, noise and odours impacts on neighbors , traffic movements, road conditions etc etc. I can not go out and start a 6000 head feedlot in my back paddock just because I feel like it.

To the article. How the hell is a feedlot ANY FRIGGEÑ different to housing cattle or stupid bloody sheep for 9 months of the year?? Seriously?? What's the difference??? Do you open the shed door so they can see a blade of green grass??? That's just whipping up hysteria for the sake of it. Same as saying "cheap meat" ....... Try buying cattle here atm "cheaply". And finish them in a feedlot on a grain ration at over $300/ tonne.

Chicken little stuff. Nothing more.

Finishing sheds are feedlots with roofs. Here’s a U.K. outdoor feedlot. Superbly run operation.

I know it and you know it but try telling modern Facebook Britain that. It's all about perception isn't it? It's not all sun dappled verdant green pastures here either but that is what many of us are trying to sell. I am not going to defend feedlot beef from Aus or anywhere else, not in my interest.

Australia’s biggest feedlot. Note almost every pen has a shade shelter (I’m assuming it was a work in progress and they all do now). No shade shelter in the U.K. one. Does this mean Aus standards are higher?
Hmmmm. I am only bothered if the end product is coming here. Whether it's Aus, U.S or South American , should be to equal to or of a higher standard to home produced. Call that protectionist - it is. Is that so wrong? What industry doesn't want to protect its market, be that in the UK or abroad? Why would you want to open the doors to all and sundry?

High quality specialty cuts..... Something the UK cant supply apparently.
Sounds very impressive. I guess when they have built their government funded abattoir they won't have to transport them 1250km to slaughter any more.😉.

I dont know why people get so excited about feedlots, there will be loads of stock in a slatted pen for up to 8 months of the year in many parts of the UK. The UK always bangs on about our world leading welfare and production standards but the simple truth is it isnt we just think we are.
Great branding for UK ag "Not as good as we think we are" . You're in the wrong job.

Perception means much more than fact.
You could raise a beast complying with 900 different rules regs and restrictions or just the same with no rules regs or restrictions.

The perception being : more rules = better
The reality being : more rules = more rules

Better usually comes from freedom to do the job to the best of your ability within your skillset IMO

At the end of the day no business in the world wants anything imported into their country which will drive the price down and cause them financial hardship. Turkeys do not vote for christmas . Governments have to find the balance somewhere in the middle, and you hope that they put the interests of the uk farmer above those of any foreign farmer. Alot of the arguements over quality and standards are bulls##t . Alot of uk beef is tastless rubber because we uk farmers have been driven by rules and price to produce fast finishing animals on unnatural diets. Feedlot foreign beef is just as tastless
