Grass growth?

I had 100 when I measured 10 days ago, and 80 on Wednesday. I think it's actually growing faster than that so I measured one paddock just before it was premowed this afternoon and it had grown 800 since Wednesday 😳
Saying that I think the quality is quite poor as its all grass that grew in the p*£&ing down rain and the cows aren't milking well.

Hopefully measuring here tomorrow. Lots of growth but cows reluctant to clean out on third rotation, milk also stalled. Pre mowing to reset about to start, during the dry spell it was amazing how well cows milked, grass at 25%DM was the driver.

Discs make the seedbed to clody here
I find the best way is to drill after burning off and a silage cut , Festuloliums are Agrresive germinaters as are Hybrids if you want something a bit better than Italian

Does anybody reckon their grass is growing at 150 or even 200 kg/dm a day.
It wouldn’t surprise me, grass is so good at compensatory growth?

speaking to next door yesterday, he’s over 200 right now. Best growth he’s seen for some time.

He’s running a trail on a mix, aber something or other, that’s doing even more and he’s very impressed with it.

Sounds silly but how do you know when to top? Seem to have big patches where cows have just refused probably not helped by grazing when it was wet and soil contaminated grass meant it was left but now close to heading. Think there’s too much to pre-mow.

i don’t care for topping, it doesn’t reset the paddock like pre mowing does. Not sure there’s ever too much grass to pre mow but what is for sure is that if it’s too strong you’ll take a hit on your milk ticket. They were in a paddock last weekend here that’s a total mess, possibly 30-40% rejection. Gonna leave it for a month and mow and bale it for dry stock.

mowing rather than a topper, if nice weather, cows love that bit of 'hay'. Grass growth is astronomical here, taken a lot out of grazing platform, as mowing grass, though we tend to feed longer grass, and leave higher residuals, learn't that, in the last 3 drought summers. Tested grass, pre-mowing, all very high quality, all cut, high yields, of high quality silage, means less winter conc.

Does depend on situation.
Shortage or excess of grazing.
Mow or top.

We have flail topper with a roller.

Spread the cow pats out and gives that tickle of nitrogen growth rates.
