We are looking at purchasing two new tractors and New Holland are very competitive, however we keep hearing they have reliability issues and downtime can be very expensive, does anyone have first hand experience if this is correct or is it just gossip, we are looking at a T315 & T270 and have never purchased NH in the past,

We've NH and JD here, they all breakdown, I genuinely don't think there's much between them for breakdowns and repairs.

You should have a look at valtra, i,ve only heard 2 horror stories about them.

They all break down at some point. Dealer/manufacturer backup is more important than the colour IMO.

They do break down we've a t7 260 17 plate 3700hrs with a repair that's going to cost around 10k. CNH haven't said if they will cover it. Warranty ran out at 3k hours.
Overall I would say up till now they haven't been any less reliable than other tractor brands we have ran.

We have 5 t7 from a 230-270 an somd of which have replaced older t7 with 8-9k hours none of them had issues apart from one older t7 had the common brake issue but thats it

What was the issue? , from experience NH, can be very helpful (pay a percentage) on certain problems even over hrs,

The rear axle casting cracked and broke out.
Not sure if the axle casting was faulty or the bearing had failed and broken it out.
The NH dealer had serviced it a few weeks previously. The service interval for that bearing is 600 hours.
I feel it was either a faulty bearing or casting. Be interesting to hear what CNH think caused it.
Hopefully they will be very helpful in this case.

If you have a good local dealer, product knowledge and good mechanics if something does go wrong then they get you going again even lend/hire if out of warranty[keen rate off course]
Some off the supposedly premium brands service can be an insult and they can try their best to walk away. Its not what you say its what you do that matters.
Don't think there is much difference in running costs between brands, buying price,depreciation,fuel costs it tends to average out.

How often the bearing should be greased.
Is it unusual on modern machine to have to grease an axle bearing?

Do you not just grease it when you grease everything else on the tractor? My older valmet has grease nipples on the back axle but the new one doesn’t… I just do every grease nipple on mine when I grease the loader up never bothered to go by the book as grease is cheap

Don't think so. We have 3 new Holland tractors and all the same. It's only every 600 hours. So doesn't need done often.

No. Have heard they can be damaged by overgreasing. Can force seal out or something. Also careful when I do grease it not to give it to much. Just 2 pumps of grease gun. Think the purpose of greasing it is to push dust out.

Yes. The grease nipples on top of axle.
I noticed on the tractor the dealer lent us when ours was being repaired theres now a metal pipe to make greasing it easier.
