Navara due for a change

My Navara is due for a change in the next 6-12 months, spoke to Nissan today, they (obviously) told me to pull my finger out because Nissan were stopping making the Navara and the last ones would be coming into the country in December. If I were to order today expect the new one to turn up in September.
Salesman also said he’d heard a rumour that Ford were stopping making the ranger (convenient, and I’m sensing a bit of B/S unless you guys can say otherwise.
Never been a Mitsubishi fan
Hilux has the worst driving position known to man, and my back reminds me of this every time I jump in one.
Too late for an Amarok, which would have been my number one choice.

Any suggestions if I leave it too late for another Navara?
Would preferably want a minimum 4 year, 80,000 mile warranty

Been in a new Isuzu and didn’t like it so that’s out.

Pretty sure VW are bringing back the Amarok... as a rebadged Ford Ranger. I doubt Ford would drop the Ranger - it'll be the best selling pickup in UK?..

Mitsu are withdrawing from Europe

Only options are Hilux or D-max

SsangYong are in administration after filing for bankruptcy so I would steer far and wide at the moment

Do you need the pickup space and 5 seats? If you can get away with 3 seats and a sealed load area a Defender 90 can be had for £35k+VAT. It would drive much better than any pickup but may not be practical for your situation.

Reliability though?
They're not proving themselves yet. But I agree it is the only small 4x4 that is capable (towing etc)

My Navara Tekna has just been written of and I have ordered aRanger Wildtrack as a replacement this time. 34 week lead time for delivery. It was £1300 more than a new Navara which would have been Nov/Dec delivery. A 2.8 Hilux invincible was another £3500 more than the Ranger and March delivery.
I liked my last Navara and have bought an identical model to see me through till the Ranger comes. Felt the Ranger seats were more comfortable and seem to hold there second hand value better.

Nissan salesman was indeed giving you a dose of B/S.

Next Ford ranger is to be combined Ford/VW effort but very much led by Ford with VW tweaking styling and rebadging of it to sell as Amarok replacement.

Not that you're fussy or anything then!!

You've left yourself one choice - the Ranger. Personally, given the experience of others in this area, woeful Ford backup, better value for money and 5yrs/125,000mile warranty, in your shoes I'd be having another test drive of an Isuzu. My 14 plate DMax has 146,000miles on it and I can't fault it at all.

I would wait and see what the new ford/vw will be like, it’s supposed to be here in 2022. That is going to be my first port of call when I change. I just hope they have a sensible middle of the way one without all the chavy/gypo bling plastered on it.

Spud - have you tried the new d-max? I have a 2.5 which has been a good truck - except it’s started regenerating the DPF rather too often. I do a lot of short runs and not enough longer ones so it’s probably my own fault - I’m told! I tried a new d-max and it’s a good improvement on the old one. What did not appeal at all was the 1.9 engine as I thought it felt very flat, bit short on torque.

Im not in the market for a new pickup at the moment. Maybe end of year I’ll have a think about it as current d-max will be 4YO. This being second d-max. Getting REALLY peed off with this DPF regenerating job as 30 to 60 miles seems excessive to me? What to do - that isn’t illegal 🤬🤬
