They probably were designed for rope hooks, but vosa have deemed rope hooks only for sheeting a load not securing a load. I don't believe either Sid or myself is trying to be difficult but if it saves someone points and a fine it's worth pointing out. šŸ‘
Yes I understand that. And know vosa doesn't go in the same sentence as common sense. But if a rope will snap before a rope hook breaks and a rachet with a d ring will bend a rope hook the strongest easiest way is to use a rachet with d ring and tighten up with some sense

Its about forces and leverage.

Keep using your rope hooks and I'll keep my driving licence clean šŸ‘Œ
You are exactly right. Using a six foot bar is putting a completely different force and leverage on a rope hook. Rope hooks are perfectly fine for ropes (rated) or sheets.
And yes, I will keep my licence clean too. You know, the professional class 1 hgv licence I have used to transport abnormal loads the length and breadth of the country with.......

The vosa person will argue how tight you make the strap is irrelevant, because if the load shifts it the force / weight of the load that will determine how much stress the hook will be under. But again can I say I agree with you, but vosa won't.

What Sid is right about is that using claw type hooks on a rope hook through the 'ring' is a complete no no. Even though most have a blob of weld on (not all) they can break and open up.

Yes and that would be same with a rope which in @Sid post can be used if used correctly. Like I said vosa and common sense never heard together

By the letter of the law, rope hooks are there for ropes to secure a sheet, not for load securing, unless theyā€™re clearly marked with a safe working load.

Loads must be secured to 50% of the weight of load to rear and sides, and 100% to the front. What everyone thinks of as ā€˜5tā€™ straps are also technically only rated to 2.5t too so be careful.

We got the seed cleaner running this morning.
Itā€™s a temporary set up, it sits tall but we need the height to bag off.
The intention is to load the hopper with our bagging bucket, ie., scoop off the heap and then open the trap door over the hopper.
Itā€™s pretty noisy with beans rattling through it but Iā€™m happy with job itā€™s done. Certainly clean enough for the drill now.
