Mass Balance sheet

i had inspection yesterday did not need it
mass balance is for 2021 harvested grain but stocks on july 1 need recording
the red tractor website has a proforma

just need to record estemated harvested grain then delivered loads
this is no more than i do to avoid over or under selling grain and making sure i get paid for each load
the imformation is recorded online by my grain coop with harvest estemate per shed and grain movements all recorded and final invoice

The requirements are to write something down. The accuracy of the something is less important.
Friend of mine became an assessor on one of the early ISOs (ISO 9000 and something) He wrote me a few method statements etc in the last millennium, he always said to me if you said you were going to produce crap but you produced it as per the written down statement, everyone was happy, I don't think much has changed since, except a lot more of the same.

Demand for product negates quality - the barley I sold for the highest price was the worst sample I'd ever seen. Borderline bushel, stalks in, dusty etc. Not an eyelid batted. Last march they found any reason to get a quid off the most beautiful spring barley that was £50/t cheaper to begin with.

Unless your farm is like Steptoe & Son, you ought sail through ACC's with half a days prep and some nouse. The most likely "fudge" to go wrong would be filling in a day spraying that was blowing a gale, but you can get a historical weather report if you "forgot" when you sprayed the stuff. I mean, can everyone actually honestly say they completes every bit of their vermin baiting, or knapsack checks? Reality - knapsack checks are :

1) did knapsack work yesterday or did i get soaked with roundup?
2) if the latter, did I fix it, or go buy a new one?

We all bait our rodents, but really who fills in the sheet every time, compared to who fills in the gaps the day before. They're not going to do a rat block stock take.

You already have a map of your grain store with intake moistures and varieties? So just wrote a guesstimate of tonnages. Check grain later, put down guess of heap size.

I still fail to see how anybody can run a business and not know what grain is harvested, what has gone, what is sold and yet to go, and what is left. Of all the things to moan about RT, mass balance is not one of them, unless you see the information as commercially sensitive.
I probably need to find out who these people are. I could buy a grain lorry, turn up , get loaded, run off with their grain, and they would be none the wiser.

The point is it is none of Red Tractors business and not in their remit to monitor this.

You should not have access to market blocked because you haven't told a third party private company who have no legal standing, what is or is not in your grain store. At the very least it generates mission creep to the next stage.

Whether the farmer has a highly tuned weighbridge computerised to the nearest kg and loaded in and out, or whether its in his head and a total guess, it is not anyone else' business. If its not broke then bloody well don't touch it!! :)

I have a fair idea of what's in my shed but that's for me to know and not some parasitic clipboard warrior. I go through the crap of being quality assured and it makes no difference to any one weather my assurance certificate is for 30 tons 300 tons or 3000 tons. They've assured me and it's up to me how I sell that produce, if I guests wrong and over sell its my fault not anyone elses and if I end up with a couple of loads extra in the shed then it's a bonus and again it makes no difference to anyone other than me.

My mass balance sheet will read, spring barley- smallish heap but bigger than last year. Wheat- biggish heap but not as big as I'd like. Winter barley average sized heap.

WTF is this ??
How can I get it done by tomorrow 11am?

Didnt need it for my inspection on Monday. Inspector told me I just have to guess whats in my store (no combine weigher) and work back from there which makes it even more pointless. I will make a point of not doing it correctly. As I said before its a matter for me, my bank manager and my accountant only.

I wonder how forth coming the assessor would be if I asked him how many assesments he planned to do, how many he'd actually done and how much he charges per assesment. I bet he wouldn't tell me so why should I tell him what a big part of my income will be!!!!!

A side note but I do know of a husband and wife who farm together but have there own farms and neither will let the other see what's in the shed, doors are locked and neither has access to the others.WTF
