Why should I stay..............

Help me out please. Particularly those native Scots.

I have spent half my life north of the border, but was born in the south. 20 plus years here. I am now after that time able to consider buying a small chunk for ourselves. However........ When I came north my lineage was not of much concern but now as I sit looking at the outbursts from the SNP, (Scotland is not England etc.) I find myself questioning why I should stay when clearly a large percentage of the country resent the English. I raised my family and paid my taxes but I am in danger of becoming hostile toward the country that has been my home for so long. I haven't changed and I know there are many great people here and I have many friends here, but I feel that we are resented by so many Scots that perhaps it is time to get out. That it is driven by the SNP matters not, it is gaining traction.

Why should I stay?

I was born, bred and have always lived in Scotland, but if the SNP ever achieve their goal, I'll be job hunting south of the border so can't blame you.

In my youth, I probably believed in the SNP ideals but, any "hatred" of the English was aimed at the establishment (specifically Westminster) rather than English people in general.

I can't speak for everyone of course but if you're happy here don't rush into anything.

Not attempting to answer your question, but I have always been interested to see that the many Scots farmers in England are generally respected and liked (as most seem to farm very well), but there seems to be a mood of simmering resentment to any English ‘white settler’ who has the temerity to move North.
Funny, that.

There is an us and them mentality everywhere. People need some group to lash out against. For the British it is any foreigner, for the Scottish it is the English, for the Glaswegian its the Edinburgers, for the Celtic supports its Rangers. This is over generalizing but the principle stands.
Sorry to hear you feel like you do but its not personal, its just humanity.

Because nothing lasts forever and Scotland is a great place with loads of good people; that written, from listening to Ms Sturgeon, at times it seems the immigrants they really want aren't net contributors, but the povo from the arse end of the Third World. Presumably that would lessen the awful whiteness of their socialist utopia.

The SNP are enormous hypocrites and opportunists; not so long ago when they were told they couldn't join the EU if they left the UK, they said that was fine because the EU wasn't that important. Now the UK has left the EU... they say a great reason to leave the UK is to join the EU. As has been written, they have tunnel vision.

It's a government. They will be kicked out in due course as with all governments.

If they achieve their aim, it will have been the decision of the majority of the country.

You are complaining about democracy.
No, I'm not complaining at all about democracy, perhaps I was not clear. Democracy legitimises but does grant infallibility. I think there may be a case for independence, but not SNP independence (built on hatred of the other rather than belief in one's self)

Just be British. I refuse to be identified as anything else. I was born in Scotland, parents were brought up in England, I have a great grandfather who was Scottish. Sad to say but we are regressing not progressing, its happening everywhere. Always someone else to blame and a politician behind it implicitly stoking hatred.
That's a bit of dodge answer, using an identity that sits on top of a deeper identity? It suggests an unwillingness to be drawn to a position on the issue, because maybe if you are there is jeopardy in so doing.

I believe all nations of the union should be proud of their identities but perhaps i'm wrong here, but I thought being proud of your identity or heritage doesn't have a moral dimension.

What I am really hoping is that somebody can convince me through argument with evidence (anecdotal or otherwise) that my 'antennae' are wrong and I'm picking up the wrong vibe.

I'm not a Scot but I have lived in Scotland for over 20 years and I couldn't care less what people say.
I've contributed to the system for pretty much all of my working life, which is more than can be said for some who were born and raised here.
I know many great people here and I love the place, but there are plenty of people who's opinions mean nothing to me.

My advice would be to do what pleases you and ignore the empty barrels, most ordinary people aren't bothered where you're from.

Fortunately I live 6 miles from England. Eck Salmond had a good crew behind him but his eutopia was Indie. Lost so ok all over. Wee nick who is Gay (husband CEO of SNP in name only and who had an affair with a foreign diplomat, male or female??? D Notice on all that by the way) backup crew are demented and stupid. Great supporter of SNP and Eck not any more, but before Indie ref moved business account to Alnwick. Money talks!
Move your butt to the south side of the Border asap to avoid the P.I.G. Spain experience. As in England supporters it is only 1% or less who are quoted so don't panic but to me I will live in Scotia but my businesses at a few clicks of the mouse will be based in Engerland and EU.

Bull sh!t. She's built her reputation on divisiveness, while blaming her complete inability to use existing devolved powers effectively on 'Westminster'. Thats not democracy, it's the controlling behaviour of a nationalist cult.

To boil the SNP's whole campaign down to a sentence it would be "Things might be utterly shite in Scotland, but at least we're no quite as shite as England". And no, contrary to popular belief she doesn't want independence even though she keeps banging the drum for the face painting loons, as she know that Scotland would be completely and utterly f**ked without the £15 billion from the Barnet formula and Rishi Sunacks covid money. She might think she's clever, but she's not completely dumb.

@ski dont you move a muscle. The silent majority are decent folk, even the moderate (but deluded) Nats. The vocal extremist minority you can ignore, it's all mouth.

speaking of democracy, when will we get a vote on scottish independance? id vote 100% to be rid of them. no more having to put the scots government's massive deficit onto our books (and pay it, and the subsequent interest), no more paying for their free university, free dentistry etc etc which we dont get, HMNB clyde moved to the south coast (multi billion £ boost) etc etc. win win for the english.

Are you considering going vegan?

It’s the same thing, lot of noise in the media about it, but in reality, many just turn it off. Same with snp.

Their popularity is bolstered considerably by the fact that they simply aren’t conservatives or labour, helped along the way by that insidious little turd Patrick Harvie and his band of socialists.

Davidson ran them close when she was in opposition but didn’t have the staying power to see it through. Scottish Labour are pretty useless and libdems, well, what’s the point of them even turning up.

SNP have some very good msp’s and MPs, but the party is pretty rotten at the higher echelons, matter of time till it all comes out.

I wouldn’t do anything rash, just turn off the telly.
