son has just had a good deal, of e'bay, 15 10 x4x2 water troughs, £66 pounds each, + £200 delivery, that will make up for a drop in butterfat !
That sale at exeter monday, was a bit scary, was told the best cows would be nudging £3,000, by the autumn, didn't believe that, when told back, a while, now think they might be close to that.
Barren cow price seems to keep creeping up, as well, trouble is, as what we sell, rises, so do all our imputs, if there is a crash, there are going to be causalities in the ag supply industry.
Top on Monday was £2300.
also told today, aut calving dry cows £1700 top ! and reckon that's brain poo

There that settles it.

dread to think what the av price would have been, if they had split the faulted ones, and priced them separately, fair dose 3/4, old and bad footed, but fresh milk, and autumn calving cows were extremely hot.
But sent 2 plain barreners up to frome yesterday, 537kg and 630kg, chq will be £1500+ after costs, so that puts a bottom in the trade, used to reckon, 1 good barrener, and a good BB calf, would buy a replacement, might need 2 good calves now, but not far off.
Marteye, opens the sale up to the whole of the UK, and cows go all over the UK, Which means, if you are distant, and buy, you have to fill a lorry, x that by several, soon creates the trade, and it also drives those 'end' cows, milking, not i/c, calved long time etc, up, as bidders seek to fill a lorry. Around half the bids are on marteye.

Saw a bit on gardeners world about slugs the other night. They don't all eat living plant matter, very important for recycling dead material. There could be an opportunity to breed them up for cleaning the parlour walls without using nasty chemicals.
Why do arable farmers use tons of slug pellets then?:scratchhead:

Had that particular farm had a history of tb ?
most farms down here, have had some issues with TB, some very serious, some not to much. Told 1 farmer lost 80 to gama test recently, friend lost 25, the problem is here to stay, unless political will allows it to be sorted.
I fail to understand, although grateful they do, why people buy cattle, stores, cows and calves, and take them back, into 'clean areas', last year cattle were going to S Ireland, and N, Scotland still buys.
For us, it means careful forward thinking/planning, for the now 6 month test, usually by pre movement testing stock we wish to sell, pre proper herd test, and get them, hopefully, gone, in case we go down.

Milk is up for not walking so far 1.5l cow
How do you get them to come back during the day for milking, ours can’t be arsed to get themselves a drink from the river once they’ve got sat never mind come back for milking. Or are they just used to coming back whenever rather than just either end of the day like ours.
