Which lagoon cover is best?

Hi looking to put a cover on the outside lagoon as storing rainwater is an expense plus reduces storage capacity quite a bit. Just wondered how long they likely last. Had 3 quotes all different products wondered if all work as well as each other. Thanks

If you hold on for a year or two you are likely to be able to get a grant to cover it over.

I've got grant through mid tier scheme, just need to decide which to go for before it runs out

I don't know. I was told this by our local catchment sensitive Farming officer.
I suppose once there is a grant on them they will go up in price.

What sort of lagoon and area are you covering.

Be very careful. My neighbour has a floating cover. Complete PITA. They are very difficult to stir underneath. He bought an expensive stirrer but still has to remove the cover every time it needs to be emptied. To make matters worse, the wind got underneath it and tore it. My umbilical/slurry contractor said avoid them at all costs. He has one or two customers with them and none can be stirred easily. Fine if you has a weeping wall and do not need to stir.
I suggest you go and see as many on farms as you possibly can before forking out thousands.

It's an earth banked slurry lagoon, approx 2500m²

What is the issue with having slurry that’s more dilute? Surely it’s a safer product the more dilute it is? I wouldn’t want pure slurry to try and apply this time of year.

I agree. All slurry goes through a separator so I would class it as more like dirty water as parlour washings and some top water goes in. Cover will increase the storage capacity as no additional rainfall will go in, should have a bit more fertiliser value and less smell except when spreading

Totally agree but will they pass ammonia regulations when they eventually come in?

No but we don't have a clue what they will be waiting is the best option imo

Its crazy the one's who will enforce these regs have possibly never worked with slurry.
