VW Touareg Farm truck

Currently have a Landcruiser LC5 which has just been diagnosed with a £5000 suspension fault. The truck is 10 years old and I’m not sure spending 5k is sensible. We buy any car have offered me decent money for it but not really enough to buy another LC by putting another 5 or 6 k towards it.
I keep seeing V6 Touaregs of around 2015 to 2016 build that look good value. 60000 miles for £21 - £22 k. Seems as though they will tow 3.5t which is useful.
No livestock so not going to be slinging a dead ewe in the back, mainly for moving myself, parts, fuel bowser and staff around. I’m not afraid of it getting dirty inside or out and I am fairly careful with my vehicles.
Does anyone have one on farm, are they reliable, any comments?
I’ve had both Navara and Hilux pickups and I’ve also had LOTS of back surgery so whatever I have needs to be comfortable.
Other option is pay for the repair and keep the Landcruiser.

Personally I would keep the Landcruiser and get it fixed, however as @Lincs Lass says it seem a lot to fix. Was that from an independent or main dealer? I think I would be asking for another opinion, possibly from a specialist Landcruiser independent.

It has been to an independent and then 2 Toyota garages, one being a service centre only, the other being a main dealer. The service centre said they wouldn’t do it as the specialist tool required would cost them £2100 to buy!

Painful, I thought Toyota were fairly built proof. Do plenty of research on Touareg problems if you are serious, I can’t put my finger on it at the moment but I do recall from a while ago that there were engine problems with them, I just can’t remember which engine. Possibly the auto box too?

I bought the Toyota 2.5 yrs ago with 60000 miles under the impression they were bullet proof. Seems as though they are, up to 100000 miles.
Will do research on Touareg. Seems as though every vehicle researched though has some issues. I briefly considered a Ranger until I read the reviews!

The engine problem was on the pre 2012 V6, the V10 were good.
There are a lot around here, many owned by folks who got fed up with the cost of mending disco's.
They are prone to the windscreen cracking if you put too much pressure on apposite corners on uneven ground (easily replaced by the usual firms at "normal" cost), other then that I've not heard of any reliability problems.
Have had our 15 plate for 3 years now as a family car and would buy another.
The adblue filler is a faff as its in the boot, but we only have to fill it about twice a year. My biggest grumble is that you can't carry a full size spare wheel, it's a collapsible one, but it will get you home.
Brilliant for towing.

The Toyota KDSS sounds similar to the infamous ACE system on the Disco 2. I spent almost £2K getting replacement parts fitted at an independent garage, still does not work properly. The fault was a dashboard warning light staying on which would fail the MOT. After several days work the warning light was still on and was then removed to pass the MOT . ;) A LR dealer would have replaced the entire system at several £K, even the new parts fitted. Is it possible to live with the fault ?

One of the best cars we’ve owned. We have not spent a lot of money on it, I will say nothing just general maintenance. It is very good on brake pads and tyres and economic driving around it will do an average of 33/ 34 mpg It has normal suspension not air suspension. You can drive it for miles and get out of it still fresh, and if you want to boot it it’s got the power to go. We send it occasionally for a service which costs around £400 at an independent VW specialist. On the back of us buying this car it has sold 5 touaregs to our friends who have purchased them and never looked back since. It can not come with a higher recommendation than that.
It’s on a 2011 plate, done around 96,000 miles, been across fields, coped very well with mud. One of my friends who has a Touareg cannot believe where we take it. He is so precious of his that he cries every time I take mine across the fields with him as a passenger. Model is v6 TDI bluemotion.
The wife and I cannot bring ourselves to sell it, we’ve kept this vehicle longer than any other car we’ve owned for our day to day running vehicle.

Mum has a Toe rag. Good vehicle, other than boot smaller than a disco and I find not enough support at the front of the seat. Electric seats would probably sort that, but more to go wrong.

Looked at the same thing against a 15 plate disco we started having issues with , in the end bought a 19 plate mid range toe rag last year with 4 miles on it , never left the main dealers main yard and apart from being over a year old it was new , turns out after the emissions scandal vw weren’t registering the same volume of cars as before via selling them so might have been plating them and slapping them on dealers yards to give the impression of selling cars ! Didn’t pay much more than your willing to pay for a new one and all that goes with a new car.
