Pickup speed limits

I was involved with a discussion on another forum this week, where folk had been hit with speeding tickets where the vehicle they were in had a lower speed limit than that for say, a car. My understanding is that the new clever cameras on the motorways have software that will check the vehicles status, and not just the speed limit. Be careful, and aware out there!

Possibly you are all familiar with the stuff in this link? I wasn't! It's as complicated as trailers....

For double cabs (dual purpose vehicles)

Over 2040kg unladen = 60mph on dual carriageway
Under 2040kg unladen = 70mph on dual carriageway

Mk6 hilux is just under, think all newer pickups are over apart from the l200

Another reason to get a proper truck (landcruiser) instead of a pickup 😜

And the L200 is restricted to 60mph on a motorway/dual carriageway if it’s towing a small trailer.
Who knew?🤐

For anyone towing;

30 in 30
40 in 40
50 in 50
50 in 60
60 in 70
Just a small point.... I believe it's technically 10mph below the National Speed Limit, so if a stretch of motorway is signposted at 60mph, a vehicle towing a trailer can sit at 60mph, because the national speed limit for the motorway would be 70mph.

At least, that's how my trailer test examiner explained it to me when he gave me a minor for driving too slow on the motorway!

If your pick up is taxed as plg it's fine if its taxed as commercial then different speeds apply, however I've never seen a lorry doing 10 mph less than the average speed cameras allow in motorway road work sections etc so not sure how often its enforced

Cameras will certainly issue a fine to a pickup & trailer doing 71mph on a near deserted dual carriageway.

I guess they take the u/l weight off the V5 Reg document? I really must check mine....

Later....

Only thing I can see is "Mass in Service: 2166", or of course the Gross wt, which is 3200kg on the Ranger.

Why do people check what the law is on so called specialist web sites when they could check on the Govt. website?

21st Century version of asking some bloke in the pub for legal advice?
