🤔🤔Also 200 acres of arable, and I mean no disrespect by this, is barely even a part time job these days.
Ah well thats me put im my place then !!!:):)With only 220 acres and a 32 year old combine im hardly relevant to the 200k combine debate . But in fairness to my jennifer she has only consumed a couple of hundred euro in odds and ends the last couple of years so shes a cheap cutter . We finished 20 acres of wheat after potatoes today 5 .2 ton acre so i suppose im not a total arable joke !!
Im probably exsessively lazy too with a man working and all..... This ploughing racket must be the problem i suppose it gives me an excuse to claim to be busy And the cows of course maybe their my saving grace and can restore my full time status !!!😏😏😏

Well it’s obviously different if you have a load of cows. I think you took my comment to heart abit. The small farmers around here mostly have other jobs or other/multiple sidelines to their business other than just arable farming.

Can it only be 40 yrs ago that an owned 250ac of arable bought you membership of the "Two kids away at a nice school, and a winter of shooting Club"?
Jeez how times change, and there was still moaning even then.

Yep, the estate along our valley was split In to many 300 acre tennant farms. All wealthy chaps back in the 70’s/80’s

I see whats happening here, to try and justify the high price tag of machinery, arable farmers must farm more land, what ever the rent costs are and hope they achieve the 4 ton/a minimum.
On the other hand the mixed farmer with a poultry 200a arable and 90,s combine with fertile mucked soil does,t stand a chance in making any money with low rent and minimal costings, and no expensive combine on finance.:whistle:

There isn’t enough people in farming for us all to have 200 acre units.
And mucks been banned!

In 60 years time the big farms will have let the hedges grow out and rounded off the field corners so much there will just be a very small circle left in the middle of fields they can just about spin the machinery round in. By this time they will be having to import gate posts from Romania to knock over because there won't be any left in this country.

I wonder if you looked at this farm before we came, as you have perfectly described how we bought it

Were you regarded as a scoundrel by the locals, "Coming over here with your British prairie farming" etc, when you tidied it all up?
Same as when a Dutchman came here locally in the 70s, and pushed all the hedges, to turn a 300ac farm into 2 fields:rolleyes: .

Our direct neighbours are more go ahead than I am so they were pleased to see some fences go up

On a new Claas combine say a 8800, what would be the maxi care package cost par year?,or is it done over acres?.
Over say 5 years ?
Basic package or do they still do the maxi gold which covered everything, I recall?
Cheers

Don’t quote me but I’m sure our local dealership told us the full top package (Gold maybe) was £4.50/acre. All you do is insure, fuel and drive.
