Extase potential problems

Graham averaged 4.4 tons acre, Extase 3.5 tons acre, cost us about 20k in lost income. Best field Graham did 4.7 tons acre worst did 4 ton. Best Extase did was 4 ton and worst was 2 ton acre lots of blind or partially filled ears. All ours was early drilled so possibly frost related? But did notice higher levels of eyespot infection compared to Graham. Definitely won't be growing it again, am replacing it with Gleam.

Niab Tag Variety wheat trials updat came today. 10 trial sites in, all on eastern side and Extase has performed consistently well on all of them.
All trails are little narrow strips, so disease isnt a problem due to different resistances etc of varieties keeping it at bay, hence the real world can look very different.

I'm not a big grower by any means, only 80 acres of wheat.
1 field of extase after oats 3t acre
1 field of extase after maize 3.6t acre
1 field of Graham after maize 3t acre
Make of it what you will but I shall be growing both again next year.
I won't write off a variety because of unusual late frosts that we don't generally get, especially in Cornwall.

Indeed.

Our package of fungicides here, at T1,T2,T3, seems to have reduced our Extase yields by some 40% compared to untreated.
What did you put on? We were reasonably robust this year even on the extase about £75/ha. it definitely stayed greener for much longer than all the other varieties. What your saying could having something very interesting in it.

Extase had the same as everything else here, a bit more than £75/ha, and stayed much greener than all other varieties until it suddenly succumbed to the 5" of rain at the turn of June/July.

Where do you envisage disease data comes from then for the recommended lists? How do manufacturers compare fungicides on disease? Trials get disease.

But, but, but; Extase was pushed as a low input variety...
Yep. But the weather pattern we had in my view did not suit a low input regime regardless of variety disease profile. So we managed it accordingly. Not saying that this is what produced the yield but very happy with it and growing it again. We may have missed the worst of the frosts but this was drilled around 25 September.

My extase was treated with the same fungicide program as all the other varieties, t0, through t3 all very robust due to area, serviced agronomy, large spend, it just broke down.
