You will probably find they object to the commission charges on card transactions, both the local kebab shop and chinese takeaway are cash only for this reason, they usuallly pay all there suppliers in cash on delivery too.
My local Indian takeaway gives 10% discount for cash payment, I like the fact they give you back half of what they save in paying tax.:ROFLMAO:

I personally like cash. I do seeding and other jobs for a friend and he like to dispose of cash as he come by large amount of it and isn’t fond of the tax man. I use it for un traceable things like kids going to movies and spending money while on holiday. Buying items from local online sites only want cash. I tried paying for all my farm inputs with a card fir the points that were linked to using it. Was told a 3 percentage surcharge would be applied. Out with the cheque book as that wasn’t going to happen. Cards are convenient for buying parts over the phone and reducing change handed back but until you see the cash leaving your hand the cost doesn’t seem the same. Easy to spend with a card but cash runs out and brings reality back.

Credit cards do have a cost, debit cards don't, no different really than using a cheque, apart from the fact it is immediate and cannot bounce.

Perhaps if they paid their tax then Boris would not have to increase the rate, why do so many see it as acceptable to defraud the exchequer? Its just results in the honest ones paying more.

I don't often go shopping but today I wanted a new pair of sun glasses now that summer has arrived.
The last basic ones I bought from Boots so I thought I would go back and find another £30 pair.

Got to the till and handed over £30.00 cash and was told they only accepted card payments! Now I could have paid by card but I stood my ground and I said I wanted to pay cash and as it was the correct amount and I didn't require any change surely they could take it as it is "Legal Tender".

After a call to the Manager they accepted it!!!
A lot of old people and those on lower income, especially in rural areas still use cash. Is this the slippery slope to do away with it?
You’d still be a King (or customer ) at every Chinese takeaway around here . To hell with Covid they don’t want anyone but the till lady knowing the takings

Cash. The bane of my life!

People brandishing 'readies' like they're some kind of big noise are always a PITA. Live in the now. Cash is a pest - it takes time to handle, you have to mess around counting it, it costs you to bank it. BACS is king, card is convenient.

In addition, the attitude of the cash baboons is always the same - total and utter incredulity when the intended recipient is either:
A) Unimpressed
B) Unwilling to accept it

Yes, I understand you want to get rid of your undeclared, tax-evading egg/horse hay bale/wild camping cash... but don't make it my problem.
YOU trail to town
YOU bank it
YOU pay the 1% fee
...then buy things in the regular 2021 way like everyone else does. Nobody is amazed by your pathetic wad. If it fits in your pocket, it's an unimpressive amount. 'Oooh, look at that! What are you? A hundredaire? Bless you.

And while you're at it, chuck you chequebook in the bin. Cheques are just stupid. They're slow and they're a nuisance to fill in. Worse, they now take 13 working days to clear, here, as I have to pay them in at the post office as the local HSBC closed.
Oh you fool , you forgot the most important bit . The buyer will insist on a discount for cash

We went for an Indian last night, cash only, pub next door plastic only. I said to a mate we should have stood our ground with barman and demanded to pay cash. I’m not bothered either way but you should be given the choice, and saying it harbours germs is rubbish

I’m sure it’s one of those things that is technically true but in reality poses little danger
I would think germs could also live on the little card readers................and just about any other surface people touch such as door handles.
Technically yes but how many other germs will have been on cash over the years. I used to chuckle at everyone who wiped their shopping down in lockdown.

That must be every Chinese restaurant in the world. Nakuru (Kenya) is the same as Branston (Lincolnshire). It’s their culture innit. Plus they don’t believe in the book of revelations.
