Doggy holocaust

Something about the fact we don't have a walled or fully fenced garden at acertain hight(our pointers previously and labs never get out) and we have young children which is a no no.
We tried applying to rehome a dog. In the end I felt I’d rather deal with the red tractor man!
If young children are a problem then I suspect they don’t trust their dogs nor the story they got given when they took them in.

We are a dog family with wife being a vet, farmland and plenty of space but no good to the dog trust apparently.
I've had dogs all my life, have access to loads of expertise and facilities at work and they won't countenance me adopting one either - Ironically, if the people at the DT did any canine handling/training/rehab certs locally, they will have likely been awarded by my workplace.

I did buy a pup under lockdown, but because it was the right time (old bitch died, terrier is 16, collie needs a mate). I may well breed from the collie and the lurcher (because I'll want a pup), but am dead set on waiting until this COVID dog nonsense has died down.

I’ve been mildly horrified by the number of people I know who I would consider “dog people” who have jumped on the dog breeding bandwagon just adding to the problem. Coupled with people who are essentially just puppy farmers popping up in every village.
Agreed, I know a vet she had 2 litters in 2 seaons, but gather she's struggling to find a home for some of her 2nd litter. It's not really surprising another, another family I know bred their Lab bitch and ended up with £28k but it was only a one off and think she's been done now.
Should also hope it slows down/stops this dog theft

Lots of tourists locally bringing doggy on holiday with them. It's amazing how many bitches have been bred from.

Not so amazing how much dog muck there is on the first 200 yards of footpaths beyond a car park, or how many dog owners think the area is populated by dog muck bag removal fairies as they deposit said bags alongside path entrances, information boards, bins, etc.

I’ve had a couple of litters over the last few years. Only because I want to keep the family going and want another dog for myself. I’ve always sold the pups before they are born. The dogs trust is simple compared the selection process of Mrs Bg. She will reject people for anything. There is compulsory membership of the puppy Facebook group, so we are in contact with all the pups. One lives in the pub so I see that one too often 😂

We did think of a litter during lockdown but decided to leave it, Bg junior wants one so maybe next year.

That’s my eldest in the avatar, she was my lockdown bill, had a melanoma in an eye which had to be removed. The optic nerve was still in one piece so they don’t think the cancer has spread.

She’s still keen to work but tends to bump into things on her left.

Will have pups from one of the others, red labs are definitely a fashion statement in this area. When I bought the 1st there were very few around, I got that one because I know the breeder well and they are quiet and well behaved. We did have a day shooting a couple of years ago where we had 9 or 10 out which were all related to each other.

Why do people keep bringing dogs and cats in from Romania and other far flung countries etc when there are plenty of dogs here that need rehoming.
They also risk bringing in rabies and other problems which our domesticated pets don't suffer from.
Many uk based charities won’t let you adopt a dog if you have cats, kids, other dogs etc in the house. Therefore people think they are helping by adopting a foreign dog instead…
