dont know just know it is in ashed and was working when last used afew years ago.
what were they like to work with ?

Never used one, Pretty sure it was a 60e I did watch working years back. Big age of a machine.

Was a Mex4 potty with a Perkins V8 locally, it went well when it was working.

Probably little point in one now, it’s just extra mechanical things to maintain, back when 75hp was alot, having 120-150 was a big deal. Now most farms will have a minimum of 150hp in one tractor or more.

Years ago, we sent a demo JD3765 out with something like a JD2250 to pull it. Side filling wasn't common then but it was used to side fill. It worked well but the place that tried it went SPFH instead.. The guy who brought it said the biggest problem with big tractors and a trailed forager was the PTO shaft between the 2. Tight turns was no good for them.
Having the engine on the strengthened drawbar, the remaining driveline was all running in line.
If the forager is in good order it'll be worth a try. Parts may be scarce nowadays for any old drag chopper..

Problem is with them , they are hard to drive as you do not feel the engine rpms dropping until it is on its backside as the engine is to far away from the tractor pulling it
It's not only hearing/feeling it. In a normal setup there is an amount of automatic self regulation as forward speed is dragged down as things get tough.

Of all the trailed Claas foragers we sold only one was an engine on version.
It was a 60e if I remember correctly.
Anyway, it had a Ford 120hp engine on it, a local farmer/contractor ran it for quite a few years & to be honest I can't recall too many major issues with it.

Think clutch pack is the main weakness.

Should be able fit a tacho in the tractor off the alternator on the chopper with not much drama i would think ?
