UK, US and Australia launch landmark security pact

New Zealand has already said that Australia's new subs will not be welcome in their ports or territorial waters.
There could be 10 US nuclear subs in NZ waters this morning and the government wouldn't know a thing about it.
With the government we currently have in power the policy changes are not in the right direction.

Our foreign minister was all over the news talking about the subject though.

Oh no wait, she said nothing, just like she's never left the country since she got the job.
NZ is slowly getting cut off from the rest of the world.
Perhaps that's her plan?

Yep, she does seem more or less useless, but she isn't white, and I think that was your PM's main reason for giving her the role.

Heard that her - the FM's - party has started a petition to change your name to Aotearoa...

You lot really need to get some electoral balls in the very near future or you'll end up as part of the third world / CCP bloc, which is an appalling notion for a place as good as and with the history and potential of NZ. :(

Its certainly become clear that the jobs weren't handed out based on ability to actually do anything.
We're a 'team of 5 million' until Maori are mentioned, there's a whole different attitude then.

Well, I've been in NZ a few times and - though I hate to write it - I found the Maori people rather underwhelming in the vast majority of cases, with two exceptions, those being the the chaps I've met in the NZ Army and some geologists I met in Zim.

The Maori make up less than 17% of your population (and that includes everyone with just a drop of Maori blood in them) yet your PM wants them to have 50% of resources and 50% of governmental power. Quite apart from the utterly undemocratic nature of this, I can't think of any Maori politician, ever, who is capable of running the country.

And as for the nascent separate Maori health service... ffs... :yuck:

I have no issues with the Maoris at all, quite a few of my friends are mixed race Maori, great company and would do anything to help if help was needed, the Government on the other hand are a different matter and their policies are creating division in what is a fairly tolerant and egalitarian society.
I am not surprised that the Maoris you met in the NZ army have your respect, a good friend of mine (Pakeha) was on holiday in Crete several years ago, when in a bar a local found out he was Kiwi and went over to talk about the war, he told him the bravest thing he had ever seen was a group of soldiers from the Maori Battalion chased down to the beach by the Germans, the Maoris had no bullets left and nowhere to go apart from into the waves, they just turned round did the haka and ran at the fully armed German troops, the Germans threw down their weapons and ran for the hills.

BBC has a cracking headline today, ' US and UK face global backlash over Australia defence deal'...

Turns out that the '...global backlash...' consists of only China and France - the one sulking about not having its desired kowtowing and the other with sour grapes having lost out on a big deal; ffs, that's like saying there is a 'World War' when just two countries start fighting between themselves... :banghead: :ROFLMAO:

I think this sort of hyperbole just reaffirms the BBC's continuing decline as a news provider.

At some time in history they made up somewhat more than 17% of the population though !
Perhaps the current Government is wishing to wear a collective hair shirt for misdeeds of the past.
If this sort of "readjustment" is the future globally hair shirt production will boom

And at some time in the past they made up less than 17%. You can take this argument on forever but don`t forget that the Maoris were party to the "sale" which took place at the Treaty of Waitangi.

Mmm After our defeat in Afghanistan the focus becomes the “threat” of China. These bogeymen all have the same purpose, selling US arms to various groups of taxpayers. It seems the UK government is he’ll bent on extracting pointless military spending from us. To those who say it isn’t pointless I would suggest the USA has no stomach for these conflicts defeat in Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq et al proves that. Of course without the USA the English won’t be fending off China’s claim to Taiwan. I doubt Australia or anyone else will either.

Genuine questions: are you an admirer of the CCP and do you support the expansion of totalitarianism?

I only ask because you - and some others - are very free with your criticism of much that the West does (although apparently able to hold it back with regard to the EU) yet never offer a viable solution to any given problem or situation. You seem to revel in the privileges of free speech etc. that you enjoy, but are loathe to see others attain them. I find this puzzling...

Aussies say they approached UK about some sort or arrangement to get nuclear powered subs, so they could faf around the ocean, playing superpower.
Boris of course realised he can barely muster enough cash to build a new yacht for the royals to faf around the ocean, as if the empire still was a thing.
Therefore he went to the yanks, asked them to pony up and make a deal with the Aussies. Boris promised of course that UK would tag along, to carry stuff like bags and water bottles. Paddy Biden of course took full advantage. Good to have tagalongs, and good to have some cover so the whole thing looks like it’s not just an American imperial thing.
Oh, and here’s the thing. Shelia will still screw GB over a barrel, when it comes to the implementation of the minute details of the trade deal. Untraceable steaks will show up in Asda, at 10 pence a pound. Skippy steaks will be two dozen for a £1.50.

Of course not. But we cannot influence it in a military way. It is delusional to think we can. The only way the Chinese people can obtain democratic freedom is to choose it and fight for it themselves. The USA won't help them. The UK simply doesn't have the capability.
