Yara conduct N dose response curves every year, ordinarily first wheat around the 220-240 N mark, with AN pricing currently economic optimum drops to around 180 N IMO……I would be taking the little and often approach. Flat rate of 60-80 kg first pass then drip feed to maximise NUE. Time to use an N-Tester too, I have never known what to recommend more N than planned, always less. Others may differ but that is from my experience of using. My phone has gone crazy with enquires re N-Tester and N-Sensor which I am passing on to relevant people as not my bag anymore.

Heard all sorts, like dropping sulphur to save a few quid……insufficient sulphur will decrease NUE meaning more N in required, for me N rates drop 10-15% now with price where it is…….however it is still the best ROI of inputs. Just need to maximise it’s efficiency. I’ve been banging this drum for years but the savings havent been big enough (according to the farmers) however all of a sudden they are.

Plenty of info out there on NUE, time to use it
Therefore should S go on first ?

I always use the analogy of feeding cattle

you don’t chuck a week’s worth of feed in the trough on a Monday morning and expect the cows to regulate themselves

a plant is no different

too often the wrong products are bought and agronomists have to then make a fert plan as best they can with what they have

IMO if I was putting it all on early (with first N dose end of Feb/early March) I would up the amount applied to account for any leaching of the sulphate - eg on cereals 40 kg So3 when little and often vs 60 kg So3 when all at start, same with OSR 60-70 kg So3 if each timing or 90 kg if all in one dollop :)

Totally agree, that's why I like my liquid N + So3 applied in 3 doses, I do use gypsum and FYM so some may say I don't need extra sulphur but crops seem to respond well to it.

Well isn’t this year the year that keeps on giving, strap up if this turns out to be true.

Surely all this restriction of fert to crops is going to drop world wheat output leading to a spike in prices?
If crop prices start to get too high they will just cut the bio-fuel inclusion mandate to reduce demand for feed grains. Human consumption grains are trickier for them to manage.

Why havent they done that already nov wheats 194, if it stays that way ill not be fussed about an extra £50/acre on my sb for fert
Because sub £200 wheat isn't a big problem to those who set the mandate and it wouldn't look too good politically to do it without pretty good justification. £300+ wheat would be a different story.

The way I see it,hgv driver situation not going to improve quickly, russia not going suddenly become user friendly and I am not going to miss another year of good prices for crops because of my pride

Dug out own resources out of the ground? Generate our own power? Who needs it when we can just impor.......oh. That went well.

Well it has been said on here a government is three meals (or should that be Big Macs) from riots. This past weekend has seen the government 10 litres of petrol from riots. Fascinating times. Now where is that CSS manual and the AB1 and AB15 seed mix.
