Case optum. Punching well above its weight

Sold our old jd 8530 (brilliant tractor) but have to say our new optum 300 is a beast a real pocket rocket. Replaced the 8530 and does the same heavy draft jobs but also nimble enough on a 18 tonne trailer or 3 m mower. Really impressed
Time will tell when you come to sell it but I’m guessing you saved a big lump of money as opposed to buying another jd. Sharmans do seem to be sticking two fingers up to Jd and selling lots of Case

Cracking tractor. On our 2nd one now. Really versatile machine and pulls very well!
Can't understand why there aren't more about. What would be the equivalent jd or fendt? Fendt 828 or jd 7310r?
828 is a big lump (or the bonnet atleast is) compared to Optum (don't know about 7310R, they're not popular here). I can see the appeal of Optum at the 300hp range, doesn't really feel any bigger than Puma (physical size wise behind the wheel). And they were very aggressively priced when they came to market.

The 800 may appear bigger but is a tonne lighter. On paper the optum is a really big lump, to heavy for it's size it seems to me however that does explain why it would pull quite well.
fendt 828 9.5 tonne , optum 300 is 10.5 tonne, fendt 930 11 tonne, JD 7R 12 tonne.

We've run a T7.315 for nearly 5000 hours, it's done a lot on an 18cube 24m dribble bar tanker which it handles well.
An excellent machine in front of a Discerator or a 6m press.

But it's been a good candidate for the extended warranty, many claims, incl an engine and a transmission....
What went wrong with the transmission

Regarding 828 vs optum 300.... contractor here running an optum (at least when it wasn't broke down) pulling same size slurry tanks as we were with 828s, I can tell you with absolute certainty that an 828 would outperform an optum all day long.

What kind of mower are you running? We have, a few years ago cut with our MF365 60hp 2 wheel drive pulling a 3m John Deere 1360 moco. Granted I couldn't get to 10kph but don't think there were many cobwebs hanging about after a few days cutting.

I'm not knocking the op as the new Optum is a tidy looking outfit, but to call a 300hp tractor weighing 10.5 ton a "pocket rocket" is a bit of a rash call.

its all relative. few of my family thought my wagon tractor was a "big" tractor. only 90hp. (weirdly i also used to run it on a JD 1355) i bet if you parked a 300hp JD 8R next to the optum, youd understand why hes calling it a pocket rocket.

Definitely not a pocket rocket, the Optums are massive.
Like when John Deere were saying the 6250r was a high power light weight machine when it’s actually a ton heavier and bigger than a mid 90’s 8400 and needs a front weight to be as balanced as the 8400 is without ballast.

depends on what your comparing it too. new JD 8280R is 6.5m long and 12.6t, optum 300 is 5.7m long and 10.5t. so relatively, it is definitely pocket rocket.
JD 8400 would be closest to a puma 240 power wise, not an optum.

amazes me how compact people are wanting/expecting a 300hp+ tractor to be nowadays, then half the time still complain it doesn't pull like older ones. wasn't all that long ago a 265hp tractor would weigh near 15 tons.
