Applying for a Firearms Licence.

Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I am an avid airgunner and full member of my local rifle club since December 2019. The problem arose when I requested my medical records and saw a diagnosis of schizophrenia recorded, but never been diagnosed. So the GP records state, says diagnosis of schizophrenia though I cannot find any letters from the mental health team, to find when this was. I myself am a Clinician and know full well I don't have this disease which makes the situation doubly perplexing and confusing to all. I spent 1000 pounds to get a full Psychiatric assessment and of course it have me the all clear i.e no symptoms and no diagnosis.
But the diagnosis stays on my records, due to foul play and you cannot amend. When it comes to applying for my FAC the Police reject such applications but in my case it's only someone's lying word, which is what I knew all along.
As for me I'm perfectly healthy and fine and have a full time job, and it seems a violation of my Human Rights to possibly deny me a Firearms Licence, just because someone made up a diagnosis. How best to resolve this issue, I have no idea. Perhaps someone could provide some insight into this matter.

Just a few thoughts:

Anyone who does not NEED a firearm other than for "recreational" should be denied a FAC

You have a mental health condition that you refuse to acknowledge

You reaction to a refusal of a FAC indicates you should not be granted a FAC due to anger management issues.

Join a shooting org use their legal helpline, pay for a lawyer…………

Find another hobby (and another forum for firearms advice) ……..

why did you request your medical records? The police request them from your gp….. you just have to pay the gp fees…..

Chose to ignore where he said had a full assessment

A) how are you a clinician if you have a diagnosis for being a schizophrenic on your record

b) why would a doctor maliciously diagnose you with being a schizophrenic surely your records would show when and who by so would be easy to sort

c) why would a farming forum be a good place to bring this up?

d) this is starting to sound like a thread a schizophrenic would start…….

Actually you're wrong.
It is a right under British law to own a gun, you just have to demonstrate that you are safe to own one and would not represent a danger to others if you do.

Gun or firearm? My understanding was you had to show a need for the latter.

Just checked - I’m right. To get a firearm certificate you need to show a good reason for needing one.

Special provisions about firearm certificates.
[F7(1)A firearm certificate shall be granted where the chief officer of police is satisfied—

(a)that the applicant is fit to be entrusted with a firearm to which section 1 of this Act applies and is not a person prohibited by this Act from possessing such a firearm;

(b)that he has a good reason for having in his possession, or for purchasing or acquiring, the firearm or ammunition in respect of which the application is made; and

(c)that in all the circumstances the applicant can be permitted to have the firearm or ammunition in his possession without danger to the public safety or to the peace.]

You do, FAC’s aren’t just dished out like medals at sports day.
You do have to show a need, anyone wanting a gun with no obvious need for it, is a cause for concern in itself.

and quite right too. Big difference between gun and FAC certificate.

the OP’s beef should be 100% with the NHS not the police.

how the hell does one get a medical record like that on their notes though with out a) Not knowing about it and b) not choosing to do something about it straight away!? I think there is much more to this story...

we don’t yet know why the OP needs a FAC Either? Given his job I’m not sure one is required!?

Every time the OP posts, it tends to further confirm he should never be allowed a weapon

His next post will be that it's not paranoia if everyone really is against you.
