If there is no discernible challenge from any external parasite beforehand, how come stock seem to thrive after a good dipping? Placebo for the shepherd?

could be but how about less bother from flies giving them a boost ? sheep hate them if they are around never really though about it tbh,

If I threw you unexpectedly into a swimming pool you would end up with a mouth full of water.

I think the sheep swallow some dip [OP] which is used as a very effective wormer in parts of the world.

that's interesting.

'course the obvious one is if they have got any itchy mites at all then they ( albeit gradually) will do better.

Is post dipping lameness still an issue? I remember it being bad in the mid 90’s when we dipped annually but whether that was dip hygiene, the active ingredient or Sod’s law I wouldn’t know 🤷🏻‍♂️

Dipped ours for the first time in 15 years last year and they've never looked better. I know one bloke who dips all his sheep with jeyes fluid and they're as healthy as any you will see

I want to dip my flock this year. Tups go in next weekend. Does dipping affect embryo retention in the ewes because of the stress? If it does when would be the best time to dip them?

Next week or a month after the tups have been taken out to let the embryos attach

Ideally, you don’t want to stress them in the 3 weeks after tupping (so 5-6 weeks from the date the tups go in?).
If they have scab now then better done now than leave them 2 months I suspect. Or maybe you’re just dipping them for the fun of covering everything in a nerve agent anyway?
